What Bernard Ransome doesn't like about The Unkommon Chef:
Purchased food from here for the first time today. I ordered the peach bourbon salmon with shrimp. The food was good. However, I was only given 1 shrimp. For that reason I am highly disappointed. View all feedback.
Chef killed it. Like I’ve been to restaurants in California earlier this month and my plate UNKOMMON CHEF was ELITE. They make their own hot sauce as well and the pineapple carrot infused water was excellent.
My friend needed a break from staying with a dying loved one at the hospital. I arbitrarily chose this restaurant because of the positive reviews proximity to the hospital.We were fed and cared for physically, emotionally, and spiritually.The food was wonderful. Expertly prepared and delightfully imaginative.... The chefs put unexpected touches on every dish.We enjoyed the chefs coming out discussing the food with us. {And also sharing some of their personal journey with us, too. They even encouraged us to try little samples of other dishes we had not ordered. Everything was so good.In addition, the kindness and support they showed to my friend when they learned how we came to be in their restaurant goes beyond words.Don't be put off by the neighborhood or the exterior appearance of The Unkommon Chef. There is a real culinary pearl hiding within the slightly rough exterior.
Omgoodness! When I tell you I was blown away ...by the quaint atmosphere... the hostess with the moreN mostess!! On this my 1st ever visit at the restaurant In living for my next trip as I intend to service my palate till my hearts content! The simplicity of the menu that night left so.much to be desired...THAT speaks volumes of a Chef. I KNOW it's going to be spectacular! ! ! Excellent food and service was enjoyed by all in attendance last Saturday! I attended their Sip and Paint. Chef served a simply divine garlic seasoned grilled half romaine stalk, topped with fresh shaved parmesan! Sounds simple... yes! Simple, and yet divine!! Also. the best deep fried whole chicken wings IVE EVER ATE! evVER! There was also delicious just right! apple infused spring water!! For dessert some type of bandanna pudding cake which I brought home and described to hubby and NEVA SAW IT AGAIN! He just grinned when I asked about it. The other day we called an order into Jackiebs... On the way I screamed out that Id forgotten about Unkommon Chef. Not wanting to screw JackieB. we went for our phone order. but going out the door I nodded them a heartfelt farewell! Im looking forward to future trips and sampling of all foods prepared by Chef at the Unkommon Kitchen. I expect to be blown away again...and again and again ? by the way..my pic is #3?

I am from NYC and i am picky about my food. I chose this place cause of the good reviews, it's a black business and I wanted some soul food. I must of spent damn near a hundred dollars and the Mac n Chees was horrible from the texture to the taste. The burger was soggy and taste burnt, I said well done not burnt. Fish soggy and salty, to top it off never have I had so much salt on my fries it was unbelievable. Honestly I wouldn't recommend and I wont be spending anymore money with this establishment. I could go more into detail, but to say less ya'll can do better than that, majority of the food went to the trash, so much for a first impression.
