My wife and I stayed at Gilly Gate Guesthouse. The prices were reasonable, the food was delicious, and the entertainment was great. A big thank you to Rachel and Jamie. We'll see you both again soon! xxxx View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Gillygate:
The friendly owner, but the beer was nothing impressive. The restaurant has gone downhill since my last visit. The beer garden is untidy and in poor condition. Hopefully, it will improve as it was great before Covid - busy, clean, and lively. It now has new managers. View all feedback.

My partner and I visited York for the weekend and decided to stop by this pub while exploring the city center. The service was friendly and the atmosphere of the pub was pleasant. However, we were disappointed with the food quality. My partner ordered a steak which was not of good quality and not cooked to their liking. The price was also higher than expected for the meal we received. Despite the food issue, we still enjoyed the overall experience at the pub. Hopefully, this was just a one-time occurrence with the food quality.

Before starting an eight days holiday in Prague my twin brother Stephen and I decided to have a week long holiday in York taking in the great sites of this historic Roman walled city and visiting the great pubs York is justifiably famous for ,The Gillygate Pub is a particular favourite of ours . This pub is superb ,interior is so good ,exposed brickwork,a solid wood serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings,tv's to enjoy the sport and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside in their beer garden. We were here on a Wednesday afternoon ,we were greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff,we ordered a blonde ale from Ainsty Ales Brewery, these were served in excellent condition,we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My ale was top notch,a golden ale, hoppy, bursting with taste and very easy to drink,a great Brirish ale served in pristine condition in a great British pub . We both really enjoyed our ale's in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Gillygate Pub is easy to locate along Gillygate. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,8am till 11pm. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.
We stayed in a family room at this b&b we didn’t have breakfast we payed 100 for one night as group of 4 my daughter and her son they was given a broken bed settee to sleep on held together by a bit of wood , the bed was so dusty and dirty i can only assume their cleaner is blind ! the window didn’t fit the frame in the bedroom which left a gap and the wind was howling through all night they had old blood stained quilts which we noticed when one of the duvet covers had come off , the following morning we addressed the situation to one of the staff who took down a phone number and said the manager would call us up to resolve the matter but she was more focused on charging us the 25 pounds for a nasty bottle of white wine we had drank the night before ! i would AVOID this place at all costs !
