We went on a Friday night and Saturday lunch and there was a great service and a real bush in the atmosphere. the eating was fantastic, especially the chips. they also had a good sort on hahn, with a local black sheep, that was great! would definitely recommend to lunch / dinner / dinner / eating drink! they were also very accommodating for our big fluffy dog, brought him a bowl of water and gave him head hoses!

The place has a really good feeling, the tvs are not loud so they do not disturb their chat or meal, and they can listen to music. the drinks are great, they have camden brewery beer with their very distinctive glasses. we had fish and chips and steak and chips that they were brilliant for the price. very well cooked and delicious. the only constructive criticism I could give was that they could do with more types of single malt whisky and maybe more gin. but this is a very small nigger, so this super pub gets and the staff still a fantastic five stars!

Along the rd of the savoy, after a walk around the metalgar square. looks pleasant, quiet, clean, comfortable. good beer, friendly barman, he had to be as I managed to spill all the table. clean, sanitary the table, no problem for him. definitely recommend and would return .

I enjoyed my meal and the beer was good quality. It’s a really comfortable place to be with excellent chairs and not too loud or busy in general. I would say that the nachos were stale and thus a little chewy.

Nice pint (Doom Bar on draft), great staff, good food and tvs to watch the footy on. What else does a man need. After many years of visiting York, I took my family in there for the first last week and now wish I'd have taken the plunge 10 years ago....Great pub 10/10

Nestled in the heart of York, this charming pub offers an inviting atmosphere with its old-world décor and cozy open fires. While the dining experience varies, with some patrons raving about dishes like the lamb pie and Nicholson's burger, others have expressed concerns over the quality of certain menu items, particularly the steak. The establishment showcases a diverse selection of beers and provides attentive service, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable visit. Ideal for casual gatherings or sports events, this pub remains a popular choice for both locals and visitors seeking a vibrant dining experience.

Popped in here on a Monday night whilst staying in York. Great pub with some great ales on tap. The backstage ipa was very good! Very cosy sat by the fire in the high back leather chairs. Defo recommend if you are in the area. Friendly helpful staff too

From start to finish our visit was fabulous. When we called to make a reservation Christian was very helpful. We requested if we could watch a particular game of rugby when we made our booking. Our table was next to the tv and the service was excellent. Christian was brilliant. A credit to the team of staff. The food was delicious too.

The beer is pricy, but that's just a reflection of my older age!

Attend semi-regularly with a group where we use the function room, lovely space for a medium group on a quiet night. Though can be busy on a match day, but seems like a good place to watch the match as well.

Very atmospheric pub, old worldly and open fires . Very popular so very busy , courtyard with heating out front for the over flow of people . Pricing was the same as the Cross keys further down 3 Pints and 1 Gin and tonic (single) £26.10 but York ain't cheap anywhere so expect these prices .
