While some establishments impress with attentive service and satisfying meals—like one that served a delightful cassoulet and aromatic ales—others fall short, offering cramped seating and cold food. Visitors have reported missing orders and unresponsive staff, leading to disappointment and recommendations to seek alternatives. Conversely, certain pubs shine with friendly atmospheres, hearty, homemade dishes, and even charging stations for convenience. Ultimately, the charm of a pub lies in its consistency; diners may find gems worth returning to, while others may opt for nearby competitors for a more reliable experience.
On our way back from York in the evening, we were searching for a place to grab a bite to eat. This restaurant caught our attention as it looked very inviting from the road, and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the manager provided excellent service, being very attentive and friendly. I also appreciated being able to charge my phone at the bar. I wish I lived closer so I could visit more often! I will definitely be returning in the future.
I made a reservation for a table at this restaurant on Sunday. I had dined here before and remembered that the food was really good. However, this time was a disappointment. We were initially seated at a cramped table for four, and when we asked for another table, we were promised one but never received it. We ordered the Sunday dinner and were given a small portion of meat with a carrot and some peas. Another couple at a nearby table had a large bowl of vegetables to share between them. When we asked for more vegetables, they arrived after we had finished our meal, and to make matters worse, the potatoes were served cold. We decided not to ask for more or a refund and simply decided we would not be returning. The Sunday dinner was not up to our expectations and there are other pubs in Fulford that I would recommend trying before this one. Please don't have the same experience as us, as it would be a waste of your money. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant.
A complete jewel that we have discovered during a short holiday in york completely through serenity! super friendly greeting from our host who works behind the bar, and some great ales, a beautiful log fan and a very fanciful menu got the dinge to a great start. the food was picked by the cook and absolutely super! I can't remember the last time I saw cassoulet on the menu in this country, so it was a no-brainer for me and it was delicious. when we said how much we enjoyed our meal, the chef came out to express his gratitude, which was wonderful. we left with a huge feeling of bonhomie and a very memorable start to our mini-width. huge thanks to the young for such a beautiful evening and check out this place because, although it can look restless when they enter, there are great things that come up when they come in.
We have a meal here at our first evening, who visited york. nice pub, with friendly staff, and a real fire going. four adult and a child eat, and we all agreed that it was the best home cooked food we had in a pub. very long time. everything was too home, even the Tartae sauce for my fish. if people make such efforts, they deserve credit, would highly recommend.
We all ordered food, but the portions were smaller than they were earlier in the day. Additionally, one portion of loaded fries never arrived, despite us questioning it multiple times. The landlady came out with an attitude and insisted that all the meals had been served, even though we knew the fries were missing. She did not offer to replace them or provide any resolution. It was very embarrassing and disappointing for our family member who did not receive their food. Overall, our experience at this pub was not pleasant. We recommend going to The Plough a few meters up the road instead. Unfortunately, this pub seems to have hit rock bottom and is struggling to improve its service.
