Lovely relaxed restaurant with great good and service. Had four courses and everything was sized just right to enjoy it without being overly full. Certainly not the cheapest restaurant but the quality was fantastic, and value off the scale. I will absolutely be back. View all feedback.
What Lynette L doesn't like about Star Inn The City:
Great atmosphere during the summer. Food was beautifully plated but tasted average if not too salty. My sticky toffee pudding had a pretty presentation but the brownie was too dry and the toffee pudding too sweet. Mocktails were too sweet for me; tasted like it came out of some concentrated syrup cordial. Overall, food was very pricey for the quality. I felt I’ve paid too much just for my eyes to feast on the food. C... View all feedback.
Very nice location and eat, cozy modern interiors, sunny outside terrace with views of the river. large menu, with wine recommendation against any dish. the food is high quality, delicious, attraktiw presented. good service and availability of tables. we also visited in christmas, beautiful Christmas tree and camein.
My husband and I went for a dinner and we had a three course meal. Starter and mains were absolutely delicious. Dessert was not as good as the other two courses. We enjoyed our time and quality service.
Very nice pub and restaurant situated right beside the River Ouse. To get in you actually have to walk through the ancient York Bar Walls. The outside seating, overlooking the river, is a great location. The table service is a little slow and it can be frustrating. I'd prefer to be able to go to the bar myself without the fuss. Good selection of drinks and cocktails.
Well, there are hardly any reviews I've done that will be this short! Everything from the welcome to the coffee was perfect and then some. After 30 years of eating out around the World, I think I've just found my new favourite place! Amazing!
I googled top restaurants in York and this restaurant came up quite high. I booked this as it was my partners and I 5 year anniversary so with this all being said, expected the meal to be above average at best. However I was incredibly disappointed. I chose the scallops to start and my partner had cured trout which were both delicious and very well presented but The “mains” is were the disappointing started. I chose the ox cheek and risotto, my partner had the lamb. Honestly I’m not one to complain and I’m all my years of dining have never written a bad review but the risotto was tasteless and very buttery and didn’t go at all with the ox cheek, yes I’d seen the two together on the menu before choosing but after the tasty starters we had I expected it to follow through similarly. I couldn’t finish the main because of the taste but also the way it looked didn’t help either, a chunk of fatty-tasting ox tail in a pool of luminous yellow mush, tasing similar to porridge. My partners main was…okay but again quite frankly bland and not what you’d expect from a restaurant charging what it’s charging. Desserts (pineapple upside down cake) weren’t much better, incredibly mediocre and presented like pub food. The bill came to over £200 and I feel the food wasn’t up to standard nor was it worth it. Plenty of reviews say different to mine (part of the reason I chose this restaurant) but we will not be returning, unfortunately. We politely gave feedback to the waiter after he’d asked how the meal was and he seemed to not care very much at all and just thanked us for the feedback. I would never expect money off ect but at least to acknowledge the feedback in a more engaging way would have possibly helped the situation.
