The music is genuine Italian: Paolo Conte a favourite, Carmen Consoli, Vinicio Capossela, De Andre.....and the location is great!!
My wife and I visited this apology for a restaurant in June and can thoroughly agree with all the reviews below except the one that praised it. We ordered our main courses and some mixed olives to nibble whilst waiting for our meals. We had barely eaten 2 olives each when the main courses arrived. My wife had ordered chicken breast in a tomato, garlic and white wine sauce with tiger prawns and topped with asparagus, what she got was a chicken breast covered in tomato soup with 2 shrimps and 2 green stalks the size of toothpicks. The waiter said that they did not use tiger prawns anymore they just had'nt changed the menu and the asparagus was italian of course ?? My meal was supposed to be veal in mushroom , garlic and madiera sauce. The veal had to be pork the mushroom sauce was thin soup , the plate was ice cold and the food was stone cold. The waiter took the plate away and returned exactly 4 minutes later with a plate that could'nt be touched and steam billowing off the food. When I told the waiter that all they had done was microwave the food which was now overcooked as well ,he patronisingly said that this was a restaurant and they had no microwaves. None of the meals came with accompaniments so we had ordered a side tomato salad dish for £5.00 this turned out to be 4 slices of tomato with some olive oil sprinkled on them. My wifes irish coffee turned out to be a cold coffee with a chunk of frozen cream floating on the top. After complaining about the whole of the meal the waiter deducted the cost of the tomato,GREAT. BE ADVISED GIVE THIS PLACE A VERY WIDE BERTH IT'S ABOUT AS ITALIAN AS BURGER KING
Came here about 10pm on a Sunday night and it was heaving inside we still had to wait for 25 minutes to be seated. The waiters are all Italian and speak broken English but the atmosphere inside was lovely, the wine list was not expensive and we had a super bottle of White Sauvignon for £17.00. The food ranges from about £8.00 to £19.00 pe main course and we had a large choice. Food was beautifully cooked and served and the music matched the evening for us on our Anniversary. Even had a sambuca gratis on the house too. Try this it won't let anyone down we are sure Richard and Dee
Three of us had a 3 course meal with wine and it was fantastic. I had the clams as suggested by the owner, they were superb. He did say (without prompting) that he would not allow Parmesan for the dish, as he thought it would spoil it. Personally, I like that, if you want it 'your way ' go to Burger King or Subway. If you want to enjoy this 'craftmans ' wares then do it his way. The negative reviews tell you more about the the unpleasant attitudes of the people writing than the great food and ambiance at L 'Antica Locanda
