Stopped on the way over to the Whitby area for a weekend away. Lovely traditional tea rooms in the grounds of a wonderful Castle. It was full/busy when we arrived. We managed to get a table. The staff are excellent here, so friendly and at the end, the man let us have free entry to the castle grounds and gardens because we purchased a coffee and soft drink (when the actual deal is take-a-way hot drinks) with our lunc... What Fiona Hawke doesn't like about Castle Tea Room:
Food was nice however it is far more expensive than a regular tea room. Staff were friendly. A sandwich was £10, which is a bit steep when it only comes with a few crisps and a small salad. View all feedback.
We're on a walking holiday in the Harrogate area and did a 10 mile circuit from Killingwall, stopping off mid way at Ripley. We visited this tea room and didn't have to wait too long. The tablets etc. were thoroughly cleaned between customers, so we...didn't mind the wait. It's dog friendly too which is a bonus. We all opted for the warm cheese scones, which were served with a little pot of chutney. These were probably the best scones we'd ever eaten. They were delicious. We had various coffees and teas which were also very good. The Staff are very pleasant and helpful too. Other peoples food looked lovely too. Decent sized portions with good presentation. Definitely worth a visit.
I'm in the regular dog too foot, so they use the takeaway service. it's always pretty slow. at this weekend there were 3 people waiting before me, the first two went away, as they stood at the window hatch for 10 minutes, without confirmation. there were the workers in the inner, some use those up directly in front of the open window and yet not even someone said: "we will be with them in a minute," it seemed only as if we were invisible (the first two waited out even a few times. at £5.75 for a not very big drink and a really small piece of klappjack it is overpriced. I'll probably take a bottle next time.
I’m not sure why this tearoom sets its prices so high. The coffee is nice but not exceptional and the tea cakes are small just average in quality. Yet £7 for two regular sized lattes and a further £5.50 two toasted tea-cakes is what...we were charged. .We walk from Knaresborough so need refreshment at this half way point but I think I may have to pack a snack and a flask rather than support this overpriced establishment. The waiter was lovely but I had already spent too much so didn’t offer a tip. I now regret this because of course he didn’t set the prices.
Good food but very slow service and nothing special.even the take away service is slow. £2 for a cuppa is a bit steep!
We stopped at the cafe for a cup of tea and coffee, you have to wait outside to be seated and we did stand there for a while until someone came, people were sitting outside but there were wasps everywhere so we sat inside. Even...inside the wasp situation was quite bad and as my husband doesn't do well around wasps we drank up as quick as we could and left, not a relaxing experience at all.
