Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms Stonegate - York

Very nice tea and dessert Love the famous fat rascal, and strawberry macaroon, vanilla cake Yorkshire curd tart were all good No wonder it’s one of the best and most famous tea rooms in the U.K.

A visit to York wouldn't be complete without a trip to Bettys! Lovely food, attentive service and reasonable prices too. We had the festive afternoon tea which was really tasty. Will be back again soon.

We had dinner here a few times during visits to York. On our first visit the sandwiches were good and my husband had a nice vanilla slice. I made the wrong choice with the warm scone as it wasn’t what I was expecting it was too dry and brittle. But it was a nice spot for something to eat. Queuing on the stairs was difficult for me as I’m unstable on my feet and the stairs are uneven as it’s in an old house. Once you’re in the cafe it’s good. And the service was very good. On our second visit I had an eclair and my husband had a macaroon. They were very good.

Definitely a great experience while in York, if you've never done a proper British tea before. However, it is a little crowded and the tea and baked goods are not the best we've ever had. And it is pricey.

Surprisingly, the wait is not too long, the queue can be massive but moves quickly. I really enjoyed the coffee, much better than in any large chain cafe, that’s for sure. The service was also lovely. In terms of the food Rosti was really nice. I was not impressed by the deserts at all, they looked very presentable but there was nothing special in the ones I tried. Sandwiches were okay but again nothing special. Unfortunately, I got food poisoning after, which kind of ruined my birthday for me. If I ever return to Betty’s it will be for the coffee only. I don’t think I will ever eat there again sadly.
