Toy Sun Chinese - Wynyard

I ordered a lunch special that included a complimentary soft drink or wine for $14.90. The food was delicious, though I found the portion size a bit small for my appetite as I tend to eat a lot. Nonetheless, it was still a great value!

The hostess at the front of the house is beautiful, and I wanted to be friendly. However, the food was terrible and a bit pricey. I ordered chicken and vegetables, and my experience was consistent with other reviews. I received small lumps of chicken with frozen vegetables, all covered in a sauce that tasted more like Maggi chicken soup than satay. I was excited to pay for an expensive meal, expecting it to be delicious, but I was disappointed. I couldn’t even finish my meal and ended up having Vegemite on toast instead. It was that bad.

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. It might be the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. I went to Wynyard to celebrate my sister’s birthday and had never been to this restaurant before. We were the only ones eating there, which makes me think the locals know better than to come here. The service was decent, but we were asked to leave at 8:30 PM because they were closing, which felt a bit abrupt. I won’t be coming back and would advise others to avoid it as well.

If you appreciate having small, overpriced servings of frozen vegetables with a minimal amount of meat, then this is the perfect spot for you.
