What explorerHIghWycombe doesn't like about Ranasana Indian:
I have dined at Ranasana on multiple occasions and found it to be just okay, not as good as other Indian restaurants in the area. However, my most recent experience was terrible. I ordered cauliflower fritters and was disappointed to not receive any yogurt sauce with them. To my shock, I later discovered that one of the fritters was actually a piece of scampi! Thankfully, I do not have any dietary restrictions, but t... View all feedback.
We were a party of eight, four adults and four children, including two under 5 and two teenagers. Our friends who still live in Downley recommended Ranasana to us. On a Sunday evening, the manager suggested we try the three-course dinner buffet, which we went for as it seemed to be the only option. Over the next hour and a half, we were served a large and delicious meal, starting with popadums and dips, followed by spiced meats, chickpea dahl, and salad. The staff, especially the older gentleman, were friendly and accommodating, even with our energetic children. The main course consisted of various meat and vegetable dishes with fresh naan bread, which was all excellent. Customers can bring their own alcohol, while soft drinks are available for purchase. The staff even went out to buy cola for us when we requested it. Despite our full stomachs, we couldn't fit in dessert, but the quality of the food was very good. The buffet price was £10.95 for adults and £6.75 for children, with one of our little ones eating for free. Overall, it was a fantastic experience at this community restaurant, and our friends in Downley will definitely be returning.
On a cold, wet, miserable night, all you want is a warm/hot curry, a great atmosphere, and great service, and we got... a curry. The place is BYOB and there's nothing wrong with that. The service, however, felt like it was done reluctantly. It was lukewarm at best. The food was, what can I say? It was curry, curry is always just okay and this was just okay. The menu was standard, nothing special. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, the place seemed a bit neglected, like the food and service to be honest. It was probably the blandest meal we decided to try from our long list of curry houses/takeaways... On the positive side, the parking was great and not expensive. I can't complain about that.
I have eaten at Ranasana a number of times and we thought it was okay, but it is definitely not as good as other Indian restaurants in the area. I went there again and it was terrible. I ordered cauliflower fritters and was disappointed that they were not served with any dipping sauce, and moments later I was horrified to find one was actually a piece of prawn! Luckily, I am not vegetarian and do not have a seafood allergy but this is clearly out of order - did someone randomly dip it in the freezer? Additionally, they impose a £2 charge to take food (which you have already paid for) home in a bag for the dog, even if you offer to use your own containers! No other Indian restaurant I have ever eaten in has done this. Don't come, just don't!
On a cold, damp, and miserable night, all you want is a warm, flavorful curry with a great atmosphere and attentive service. Unfortunately, what we got was just a curry. This restaurant allows you to bring your own alcohol, which is fine. However, the service felt somewhat lackluster and the food was average at best. The menu was standard with nothing particularly special. Overall, the place seemed a bit rundown, much like the food and service. It was not the most inspiring choice on our list of curry houses and takeaways to try. On the bright side, the parking was convenient and the prices were reasonable. Despite that, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again.
