A longtime neighborhood Filipino spot praised for classic dishes like nilagang baka and kare-kare faces mixed reviews: loyal fans applaud authentic flavors and friendly service, while others report higher prices, unclear charges, and inconsistent quality—oily or undercooked items and large batches served late. The cozy, pre-COVID homey vibe and modest seating have diminished, shifting toward takeout and groceries. Serious service issues were alleged, including rude staff and a reported credit-card incident, tempering recommendations despite lingering strengths in traditional fare.

What Aimel Santino dislikes about Kabayan:
I was charged $14 more at your store compared to the same quantity of items I purchased at Philam. I spent $34.47 at Philam, but at your store, it came to $48.78 for the same items. I'm not sure how this happened, but it's just unbelievable. Please don't let this happen again. View all feedback.

If I had read the reviews beforehand, I wouldn't have placed an order. The food is quite pricey at $7.95 each, and there is no clear indication of the prices when you order. As a customer, I felt unwelcome; the staff was rude and unprofessional. The food was also quite oily. If you don't speak their language, you will likely receive poor treatment, as they speak among themselves about you. Some of the food appeared to be old, and despite the kitchen closing soon, they still brought out plenty of pre-cooked dishes. This was my first and last visit; I'm glad I ordered from TGTG instead, as it didn't come with such a hefty markup.

I loved this place for a number of years. Pre-Covid Kabayan used to seat about 20 or so reasonably comfortably(Seating kind of like an old style converted home kitchen). You would select from the available Philippine specialties then carry it to table. Maybe not Fifth Avenue style, but charming and fun none the less. The food was great and reasonably priced. I forget the actual cost, but I think that it was around 5 or 6 bucks for a meal of a main, rice, and a soda. The lines were long but worth the wait. As much as I still enjoy some of the specialties, some that we used to love are no longer in the mix... Before I start singing, The way we used to be , I 'll sum it up. The food is still good, the prices are higher, and the someone 's kitchen vibe is gone . I still would recommend Kabayan as a darn good Philippine takeout place.
