I chose the Met for a gathering with friends because I was there a year ago and they served the best mac 'n cheese that I have ever had. In that respect, I was not disappointed. However ... I also had calamari, which was awful -- indistinguishable from little chunks of deep-fried spam. And, although our waiter was great, the meal service was extremely slow -- even though we were pretty much the only ones in the resta... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Allen Restaurant:
90 minutes for entrees to arrive, orders were incorrect as server went by memory. He even returned to the table and confirmed THREE times. We were late for our event. Despite entree being wrong, the server did apologize but it was too late to correct as we were tight on time. My guest ate what was presented but was not pleased. No effort was made to remove the entree from the total. Regrettable experience. View all feedback.
We were hoping to eat out on the beautiful roof top patio, but weather did not co-operate. The inside of the restaurant is lovely, service was OK and the food OK at best. The menu is interesting but I'd like a do over. I had the wild mushroom and goat cheese wrap and didn't particularly enjoy it. My dining partners had the roasted butternut squash salad with not a single sign of any butternut squash and the waiter didn't seem to care , and the mussels and fries which were good. Definitely wouldn't go back unless it was a nice summer day.
Came here for dinner on a Thursday evening with two girlfriends. We arrived before 5pm. We sat in the Lounge because there was a private party in the restaurant upstairs, and also in the Theatre area. I am so impressed with how the majestic old Met Theatre has been transformed into a beautiful venue that pays homage to it 's past. After much consideration of the limited Lounge menu, where everything sounded wonderful, we made our selections. B and I shared a salad and the Wagon Wheel Clubhouse sandwich. A had the mushroom burger. We all loved the skinny fries, and were impressed with their $4.00 drinks, and half price bottles of wine. We were impressed that unfinished wine could be capped and taken with us. The food was beautifully prepared, and very delicious. We shared the Chocolate Marquis dessert. It was rich and creamy and just the sweetness we craved to finish off our delicious meals. We had a wonderful visit, long overdue, and definitely plan to come back, maybe for a future 'Dinner and a Movie ' feature event. Our server was very attentive. All in all I would say this is a very nice place, the prices were reasonable and more people should come and check it out . . . based on our experience, you won 't be disappointed.
'Sunday brunch at The Allen ' has a nice ring to it, and one that people will hear from me regularly from now on. A short stroll from my place, this experience is now counted among the reasons why I live downtown. Great food, beautiful surroundings, and gracious service. Brava!
I had lunch here the other day with some friends, I had a burger and it was delicious my friends also really enjoyed their meals. The service was also great, very friendly staff! I'll definitely be going back soon
Bravo Canad Inns!!! What an absolutely outstanding venue. Service was impeccable, food amazing!. I can not say enough about how enjoyable our evening was at this wonderful restored theater. Being new to Winnipeg, my husband and I like to try out new restaurants and I have to say I was quite impressed. The surroundings were just beautiful. Our waiter was very attentive and was always there whenever we needed anything. The tenderloin was lovely and the salmon moist and very flavorful. My husband and I would definitely go again.
