Service was very good. Good wine selection. I found some of the food a bit beyond my palette. No chicken dishes on the menu, it happens to be my favourite. Even so it was all well prepared. View all feedback.
What Aimée Robert doesn't like about Sydney's at The Forks:
We were a foursome and the only table for a Christmas business lunch last Thursday! Had many meals at Sydney's in the past and food quality and atmosphere were usually excellent. This time food was mediocre and pricey for what we were served. My fish was overdone, and double brownie dessert was dry and tasteless. Crème brûlée was the highlight. No table or Holiday decorations in the restaurant. Is the restaurant falli... View all feedback.
Nine of us were at this restaurant two weeks ago for a business dinner. I had not been here for a nuber of years and was looking forward to an enjoyable meal and conversation. The conversation was great, the meal not so much.A few of us were surprised to find that the only option was a prix fixe menu. There were appetizers ordered for the table. None were memorable, except that the Scotched Eggs were a first for many of us and were quite tasty. The main meal choices ranged from Rack of Boar (which looked and tasted like pork chops) to Duck, Lamb, Trout, Beef, and Lobster. The beef medallion-like entree, ordered medium rare, was overdone but not too bad. The steelhead trout was not great, according to my dining buddy, and the lobster was reportedly just okay. The Apple Tart for dessert was a disappointment, with small scoops of apple on a hard cookie crust. The Creme Brule was very good. All in all, the $54 Tab for a three course dinner was quite pricey given the disappointing quality of the food.
This was our first meal in Winnipeg and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is located in the Forks Market, which has lots of interesting eateries--some of which look delicious--but Sydney's is the only real fine dining establishment in the market. We shared some delicious New Brunswick oysters served with a delicious, tangy relish: they were super fresh and delicious. We had an appetizer of octopus and greens: very delicious. The other appetizer was a kale salad with sweet nuggets that didn't come off so well: the blend of sweet with the salad didn't work so well. The main course was a 7 ounce New York steak, which was perfectly cooked and succulent. Dessert was a crème brûlée, which was delightful. The waiter was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful with respect to my gluten allergy.
We were a large group of 17 people and the experience and meal was excellent from start to finish. It probably helped that I did not have to worry about the bill. The room was private and the perfect size for our group. The waiter easily took care of the group with a great sense of humour and efficiency. We chose from 2 or 3 options for appetizer, main course, and dessert. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their choices. My husband had a very interesting beet salad and I had a delicious Ginger tomato soup for our starters. The delicious bread came with two extremely tasty spreads. My husband's main course was salmon done to perfection and my chicken breast meal was a wonderful assortment of flavours. The neopolitan cheesecake for dessert was a great finish to wonderful evening. Thank you to the professional chef and staff at Sydney's for an very excellent meal!
Dined with friends at Sydney's. Started with the Charcouterie and Mcduckettes. The Charcouterie was a nice sampling of some really good cheese, some apple, dates, macerated cherries. Loved how the flavours went so well together. Started with the octopus and the kale & brussel salad - both very good. For mains we had the brined pork and the lobster & clams. The pork with very good. Loved the curried chickpeas. This dish packs a bit of heat but is somewhat tempered by the mango. The lobster and clams was also a great meal. Fantastic taste and cooked perfect. The plating looked amazing on all dishes. Good selection of wines. Great decor in this restaurant and there are private rooms available for larger groups. Excellent service from Carlos. We will be back.
We were warmly greeted upon entering the restaurant and the ambience in the dining rooms was lovely. Our waiter was Owen but Robert and the maitre de both checked on us periodically so the service was stellar without being intrusive. The pacing of the courses was great as there is nothing worse than being rushed through dinner. One of my suggestions would be to turn the music DOWN. It was too loud. Menu offered some interesting choices, and allergies and dislikes were dealt with easily. The Mcducketts (appetizer) were great......ironic take off on McDonald's chicken McNuggets.....these were 6 crispy nuggets of wonderful ground duck breast with 3 dipping sauces. A good start to the meal. The bread basket was appreciated and the breads excellent, especially the corn bread. Spreads of beet cream cheese and citrus cumin hummus accompanied the bread. Both the beet salad and the kale/Brussels sprouts salad were fabulous. The main courses were good but the salmon, in my opinion, needed a sauce of some kind. The steak was very flavourful but parts were chewy with sinew. The creme brûlée was excellent but the 3 leche cake was not enjoyable......no resemblance to the real cake. It was chunks of flavourless sponge cake with fruit and a drizzle of dulce de leche. It was more like a bad version of strawberry shortcake as opposed to the decadent Tres Leche torte that I had anticipated. Expensive dinner but if you want a special place for dinner, this could be it.
