The seating capacity of the restaurant is small but the menu is good, the service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. The menu is El Salvadorian, a little different than Mexican but it does have a lot of similarities. Our waiter (owner) is simply wonderful in a downhome, folksy way. It is more like he invited us into his home than that we were patronizing his business establishment. Unfortunately the restaura... View all feedback.
What GuatadeLapis doesn't like about La Fiesta Cafecito:
Only go if you like Mexican or Latin American food that is dry and hard--and if you want to wait quite a bit of time to be served. The server was quite amiable, but he can get engaged in talking for 10 or 15 minutes with other patrons before getting around to you. It may be that they have a regular clientele upon whom they focus, but they showed no interest in expanding their business. We eat Mexican all the time: th... View all feedback.
If you're looking for run of the mill Tex-Mex, keep looking. But if you want authentic cooking, and a unique dining experience, La Fiesta is for you. Family owned and operated, chef Sonia has reproduced a corner of her native country, El Salvador, right here in Winnipeg. If your food takes a while (ours didn't) as some reviewers have said, it's because this is the real thing, cuisine from El Salvador cooked with love and care and a meticulous eye for every detail. The pupusas are out of this world. The tamales as well, and the burritos are a pleasant surprise if you've tried them somewhere else. We started off with a terrific lime margarita, then an appetizer of fried yuca. All fantastic.. the staff is warm and friendly, the atmosphere festive and the cleanliness impeccable. La Fiesta is more than just a fun night out, it's a journey to discover another country and culture. I just can't say enough about this place... you just have to try it.
I love all the food. You can portion what you want from a regular to a ponderosa (Huge) Tamale and Pupusa are regular sides we get with whatever other selection we choose. I've tried to replicate their Pupusa at home, no need to worry La Fiesta you won't be going out of business any time soon. If you want to stop in for a fast bite, you better go some place else like Taco bell. The wait is long but well worth it, have a few cocktails and engage in conversation while you wait. It's an evening out. Love the staff too, oh so friendly. In the questionaire below it asks if this is a Mexican Restaurant, sort of but not really, It is El Salvadorian. A very typical Latin American style restaurant you'd find in the old country.
Warm family atmosphere. Sonya was our server and she was so very proud of her restaurant and with good reason. Food was excellent! Prices reasonable. Not much presentation in the dishes but the tastes were super. Puputas were fabulous.....bean and cheese/ pork and cheese were both enjoyed. Caesar salad (large) was big enough to share between two and had a very nice dressing. Just lettuce, no croutons. Chicken quesadilla was thick and full of flavour. Chicken burrito was great....chunks of chicken breast, rice and cheese. Beef burrito was also good. Decent choice of wine and beer. Pumpkin cheesecake was a delicious bonus! We will definitely be back to this restaurant.
