Crystal Bay - Winnipeg

Ate here for the first time today and everything about the place was great. The buffet was priced at $8.95 which was very reasonable considering the amount of selection there was. The mixed vegetables were cook perfect which is rare for a Chinese restaurant, the bbq side ribs were tasty, the trays were refilled quickly and the waitress was very attentive considering how busy it was. This was my first time trying here and certainly not my last.

One of the best Chinese lunch buffet in Winnipeg. Great selections, tasty, meaty and less flour. I enjoyed very much the food in here and the containers are always re- filled with freshly cooked items especially the pork ribs and chicken wings. Lots of parking. Will be back.

At 1100 Waverley St., Chrystal Bay Chinese Restaurant is right smack in the middle of a bustling business/industrial zone. There are very few options in this particular area of Waverley and McGillivray. With winter driving conditions upon us, it is handy to know where you can purchase an affordable lunch without having to traverse too far.

After several good experiences, I don't think we will order from Crystal Bay again. The food was hot and arrived in about 30 minutes and the delivery guy was courteous and pleasant. The bean curd in black bean sauce was excellent, but could have used some more veggies. Mushroom fried rice and breaded veal were no nonsense and satisfying. Deep fried wontons were small, thin, and very crisp. I definitely liked these better than the big fluffier style I've had elsewhere. A couple other dishes missed the mark, however. The egg rolls were fairly small and no sweet sweet plum sauce packets made their way into our bag for them. The plain chop suey had an odd heat to it that I have never had in this dish before. It burned the lips and took away from one of my usual favourites. If my gf hadn't just had a large delicious egg roll the other day that put these to shame AND the chop suey lost the spiciness, I would give Crystal Bay another ring. But, I think we'll try another joint next time when we want these staples done right.
