A group of us went here recently. They had no tables available downstairs but were able to accommodate us upstairs where they have the same menu. We had 3 kids with us and they each found something they liked. I had pizza that was excellent. The wine list is limited but I did have a decent Chianti. The service was outstanding. What Abby Rose doesn't like about Spago Trattoria e Pizzeria:
the food here is great. but, the main issue we had when we were here last night was the service. we asked for another round of bread and our server completely forgot. we had to ask again when our food came out. also, there was someone doing water refills that ignored our table, making us have to ask for more water. and they had no clean spoons for when we ate our pasta. I loved everything about this place! Terrific menu, great service, and delicious food! The homemade, warm, bruschetta was a wonderful surprise at the beginning of our meal. Our waiter, Joey, was charming and engaging and a great server. The Pizza Florentino was unusual and tasty. The Gnocci was tender and delicious. Like I said - I loved everything about it!
We chose this restaurant because it was one of the only ones we could find that was open on a Monday night. The menu was decent-there was a lot of different options. They also had gluten free options with most of their pastas, which was helpful. The brought out quite a few appetizers before our food came (most of them had gluten-but my friend enjoyed them!)Overall, the food was yummy and the restaurant was clean!
Giving this place a 4.5/5 stars. I came here for a friends birthday, and I got to say the food was pretty amazing!!! Our waiters were very kind and helpful, our glass was never empty of water. The free bread (forgot the name) and tomato starter was pretty good, me and two friends order the arancini balls starter to share, and was dissapointed by the portion size, the dish costed almost $10 and there were only 3 arancini balls on the plate! My main was spaghetti with baby clams in red sauce (don't remember the Italian name), which was to die for! I definitely think this dish was worth the price, and every bite was amazing. I never tried fancy Italian food before, and after this experience I will definitely be coming back (but maybe not for the appetizers)
We were in the area so stopped in for an early supper onlty to find the doors locked. As we headed back to our vehicle a gentlemen (who turned out to be the owner) approached us from a side door. He explained that whereas they were closed because they were in the process of prepping everything, we were more than welcome to come in and enjoy a drink until service began. To that end he opened the front door and in we went. Never have I been approached by the owner of a closed establishment. He obviously cares about his clients and his business. Staff were scurrying around getting everything ready for service but they made sure we were well taken care of. The food was great!
Spago's is an institution on Windsor's Erie Street. Its been there as long as I can remember. The look of the restaurant may change from time to time, but the quality has remained excellent. Its the benchmark for the street. Some may be better, many may be worse, but Spago's is a good measuring stick for Italian places to eat in Windsor. The food is consistently excellent. I can't say I have ever had a bad meal.
