I go here solely for the fish tacos. I can't find another place that makes them quite as good. I've had other food here and its all delicious but definitely try the fish tacos! View all feedback.
What Alexis Paucek doesn't like about South Detroit:
Was enjoying the Film Festival and needed to eat something in between shows. Wandered over here and sat at the bar, cause usually you get pretty good service. Didn't seem like anyone in the place was interested in the customers but all of their own personal business. Food was actually cold, and not really as was described in the menu. I was staying at a local hotel and happened to find this little jem. Detroit South has a very eclectic menu which has a vast array of different items to please any pallet, including mine. In all fairness I went straight to the Oysters on the half shell, with a nice Australian Shiraz, I was in Heaven. Will definitely recommend this place to all my friends and I can't wait to get back.
The service, I'm not going to lie, isn't that wonderful. The staff are very young and enjoy talking among themselves more than waiting tables but it was never awful service. The food is amazing, the mac and cheese balls are amazing, as well as the chicken and waffle sandwich. Highly recommend the food!

My friend and I always like to try new restaurants so we headed to South Detroit. The atmosphere was slight bar like, the waitress was FANTASTIC. She treated us like we were old friends. The food had a great twist on classics. We split the appetizer platter and my favorite was the chicken strips...boring I know. BUT they used cornflakes to batter them (nice and crunchy) and they came with a thick dipping sauce that was a maple base - AMAZING! They also had macaroni bites that were rolled in cornflake or panko crust...fantastic.The ONLY thing I would suggest they change...their sign! You can't see it from the road at night. It doesn't light up and it's under the entrance way. The only reason I knew where it was located was because I google street viewed it and saw it was beside Chanosos.
