While some guests appreciated its charming decor and hearty dishes like Shepherd's pie and fish and chips, others lamented poor service, with a notably unwelcoming maitre d', slow order times, and cold food. Complaints of pretentiousness, unappetizing meals, and invasive wasps marred the experience for many. In contrast, a few diners celebrated friendly service and delicious food, suggesting the establishment could be a hidden gem for those seeking rustic English fare amid a picturesque setting.
After visiting Windsor Castle, my friends and I decided to stop by this restaurant to try their afternoon tea. The place looked charming and the prices were reasonable. Although the restaurant appeared small from the outside, it actually had three floors. We all opted for the afternoon tea set and were not disappointed. It was our first time trying clotted cream and we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. The scones tasted fresh and overall, it was a great experience. It was a nice break from our day of exploring the castle and the staff were accommodating, allowing us to linger and chat for a while. I would definitely recommend this place to any visitors looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy some tea and scones.
Super friendly service, great humor from our waitress, and food was quite good. Had fish and chips with side salad, the latter which was fresh and fish portion was huge! Due to a sensitive tummy, can't eat a lot of fried and battered food, but can't come to England and not have fish and chips! So only had a few bites of fish with batter on it, before picking off the breading and eating only fish- liked the fresh tartar sauce (tasted homemade). Great view of castle with British flag banner over the mews- would come back for sure.
Just had the BEST dining experience here! Went to the castle and stopped here after for dinner. I had the ribs which my father tried and said were the best he'd had his entire life. The Shepherd's pie was also very good, and all the desserts were incredible. I managed to snap a picture of the desserts we ordered(chocolate cake, apple pie, toffee pudding) before everyone devoured them! Also the service was great, very quick and friendly!!
This was everything I had hoped it would be. Roaring fire on a cold day. Amazing Shepherds pie. Smooth Guinness. To top it off an amazing sticky toffee pudding. Been here since 1645. Not bad. I'll be back next time I'm in the vicinity.
This restaurant was right next to the exit of Windsor Castle and proved to be a great place to refuel with a pint and some food. Amongst several other restaurants it was difficult to choose so we walked around looking at menus and everyone's food. This restaurant in our opinion had the best value and quality. Bonus! High chairs available Negative don't expect to change your baby in this barroom, it's up a winding staircase and is tiny. Although we had no problem changing my daughter on the other side of the street on a park bench. Don't worry!! We used a changing pad so don't worry that you'll be sitting in her poo . It's a nice somewhat isolated area.
