What Hans-Jörg Pape doesn't like about Windsor Grill:

I had been looking forward to the visit for a while.Unfortunately, the food, service and environment let this place down. It was a great welcome from chef patron and the staff. All smiling and cheerful and attentive even as a party arrived for upstairs and another downstairs. But the busy Friday night didn’t mean we were kept waiting at all. I had a peppered steak and I’m still thinking about how delicious it was. Cracked pepper rubbed in and pan fried.served .with steal au poivre sauce. And I had pomme dauphinois with it which was very naughty but so good. My friends had steak and chips.. there are chunky or fries. Don’t forget the starters …blackened prawns were a hit. And bring your eating boots for the desserts. You won’t want to miss this and then stagger home for a very good nights sleep. They also had a great wine list with a really good price£ New Zealand Pinot noir that I I think. Very easy drinking.. will be back.
My husband and I went on a Saturday evening for our anniversary. It's a little off the main centre of Windsor and the walk there took in some of the less salubrious sights but you if we had driven we'd never have passed that way!...We pre booked and the restaurant was busy but not uncomfortably so. We had a cocktail on the way at St Leonards and the staff there said don't be late as The Grill us super popular and the best restaurant in town! They were right! We had starters, a nice bottle of red and a main followed by an after dinner drink. Starters were excellent, great portion size. My husband had crab timbale and I had pork cheeks warm salad. Both were excellent. We ordered the chateaubriand to share with sides of fries and brocolli and sauces. The steak was cooked to perfection and sides and sauces were delicious . We chose a mid priced Chilean cabernet sauvignon which again was excellent. The atmosphere was great but alongside the fab food the highlight was the fantastic, attentive staff. We were mainly served by Dylan and Rosie who were genuine, helpful and accommodating. They clearly love their job and the restaurant and explained how many of the staff have been there for years. I would not hesitate to recommend this excellent restaurant.
We went on Saturday for a special date night out together. The restaurant and staff are amazing and the food is excellent is expensive but worth it for a date night or special occasion will definitely returning.
We were visiting Windsor and read the good reviews about this place and were so pleasantly surprised to find such cosy and beautiful place . The food was delicious. Lots of starters to choose from. We had squid and warm salad for starters... The squid...was so delicious and beautifully cooked, and had subtle spicey chilly and onion dressing. I had warm salad and the pork just melted in my mouth . For our mains we had steaks , sirloin and rib eye and my partner said this is the best steak he had ever had in UK . The mushroom sauce I had was so authentic just perfect. The sides of duck fat chips and cauliflower cheese are must try ! I never though that I'd love cauliflower but I'm already a fan after trying WG's special side of cauliflower cheese. Generous portions and such lovely staff ! They made us feel welcomed always with smile on their faces and very knowledgeable and chatty as well. The whole atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and it had real good vibe .The play list was such a nice addition to our experience , such good mix of all types of music. We were sat at the table close to the bar, and we've noticed that the whole place is decorated with good taste and attention to detail. This place is a true gem honestly , and I'm not surprised now that they have so many stars reviews ! We will definitely come back when visiting Windsor again ! My sincere compliments to the chefs as well ! We've learned that the owner of the restaurant is the Chef at the kitchen so what a delight , when so much attention to details is payed to food ! You created a food momento that we will not forget .
