Small restaurant by the port. Seafood chowder was the best I've ever had. Lobster roll was also the best I've ever had. The main event was a nice lobster. Overall it was a great experience. View all feedback.
As we were shopping we asked for a recommendation for a good place to eat. Without hesitation it was suggested we go to Gilbert's Chowder House. After securing seating on the patio we placed our order. It wasn't long before the most delicious and definitely home made clam chowder and fried clams were delivered to our table. Having already eaten at another Clam Shack earlier in the week recommended by Yankee Magazine we couldn't understand why they hadn't selected this establishment instead. Far surpassed the other. I would highly recommend it.
For the past 13+ years we've been coming up to Maine. Gilbert's is a must stop for us , no matter where we're staying. I love the wharf atmosphere, the friendly staff and delicious lobster meals. Best of all, they serve Allagash White on tap.
The chowders are delicious and the lobster BLT special was very good. Great outside place to eat and the service is fast and very friendly. Been there twice in 2 weeks and I am from Connecticut
Delicious! Highly recommend Chowder was amazing as well as lobster roll, fried clams, and fried scallops!
Awesome! We had clams, oysters, scallops, mussels and haddock. Not a single bad bite! If you’re in Portland, it’s well worth a stop!
