What User doesn't like about The Plaice:
the fish chips we had for our evening meal from the plaice in winchester were very bad. the chips must have been left from the midday period, as they were not at all nice, do not definitiw fresh and inconspicuous. fish looked nice, but wasn't so over...cooked too thick. the fervent thunderstorm was the worst thing I've ever tried. will not go back. We get to start to eat our food and it's tasty as if it were all sitting there all night, it was so gritty and tasty as old dirty oil. So I called and asked if they could help that I was extremely polite and just said I would... instead of pulling my children back into the car because it was late and we all left. the incompetent Rude owner decided to tell me that I had to bring it back the next day and she never had a complain about her eating. I wouldn't have disturbed to take it back if she had excused and understood, but due to her lack of customer services I saved what had remained dog eating and took it back the next day. again I was politely called with a smile and asked her quietly so that her customers were not to hear in the shop. just from the flea mouse she said I was a liar, eating was well opened eating and because not every single chip was there and some eating was obviously eaten! she said, good that they had eaten it, their liars, it is good their liars! she then told me she would just refund me £10 I hadn't even asked for a refund I just wanted a courtesy service and understanding, but no she just told me I was a terrible person and I was a liar. if I had gone a terrible person I would have gone to all G*ns who would be willing to argue and embarrass them before their customers and I would have it anywhere in social media because I am sure if they live in winchester, they know a large Facebook page called winchester rants who really over their opinions. I explained to her that what I would have done if I were terrible, but I didn't and I wouldn't. she then told me that she had me on cctw f knows why she told me because I didn't do anything wrong
I have been living in the st cross district for about 12 years and have visited this fish chip shop soon after I moved here and last in the juni 2021. in the second place the fish was boiled over, light gray in color and chewing. the teig was too thick and undercrowded on the inside and the chips were terrible. they had a hard outer skin that was detached from the kartoffel inside. if I had said that the chips were fried in motor oil, I would not have been surprised because the taste was indescribable. I would consider that the chips were the remains of an earlier layer and were reheated. well fried fish should be white in color and wet and the teig crisp and thin. I won't first plaice a third time.

I have been using this fish and chippy for years and travel several miles as my local ones are not very good. I have always had an excellent meal with the fish fresh and well cooked and enough chips for two. Tried again to see...if it was still up to scratch and it was. It is called First Plaice and is next to the Bell Inn in St Cross, just in case you are confused.
