We chose this pub as a family meeting point between our respective homes. Despite being a ‘chain’ pub (Fullers), the atmosphere is much more like a free house. Despite being busy, the service was prompt and friendly. The food better than one would expect and... View all feedback.
What stevlee78 doesn't like about The King Charles:
I met a friend here and didn’t book a table, so first advice is book a table, the staff were very nice about this and seated us for a drink. We then got lucky with a cancellation I ordered the veggie bean chili, it was... View all feedback.
Great Park for the kids just let us get our drinks from the bar …. table service for drinks in the park is bonkers! we waited over 20 for 4 drinks to arrive
"On Thursday, February 22nd, 35 members of our local club gathered for our annual dinner at the King Charles. We were seated at 5 tables and the food was served to each table in a timely manner. Everyone in attendance had nothing but praise for the excellent starters, mains, and desserts. The service was impeccable, especially considering the frequent table changes throughout the courses."
We had a promising start when we first arrived at the restaurant, as we were immediately asked if we would like a drink. However, the delivery of our food was quite slow. The food itself was good, but the service started to decline afterwards. Our plates were not cleared away until we asked, and we did not see any waitresses around. The bartender ended up taking our dessert orders, and then a waitress came over to inform us that some options were not available. Overall, we were not impressed with the service as the staff seemed disinterested.
Last night, a group of 10 of us dined at this restaurant. We preordered from The Christmas Menu and enjoyed delicious food served by efficient and friendly staff. It was a lovely evening, thank you very much.
We love this pub, and since certain changes in the village it is even more important to hold on to what is essentially a tradition village pub. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is good old fashioned pub food that is well cooked, well presented and sensibly priced. The nachos are to die for and half priced Steak night is a game changer. A great selection of beers, wines and spirits a reasonable prices. The gardens are well designed and separated for comfort. There is a kids area at the side with tables and play equipment. Then there is a garden to the front with covered areas, a patio, fire pit and a pizza oven. If I had one gripe it would be the opening hours can be a bit hit or miss, but as a village pub this can be overlooked. The King Charles is a pub for the community that serves the community. It is not a venue that is just there to turn a profit for some middle aged men and women sat in a boardroom with no consideration to what the locality wants. As a pub it is a traditional as the fish and chips it sells and the London Pride it pours. Proving totally that Fullers knows what is needed where others have missed the mark. These places are becoming few and far between in the UK and should be celebrated before we lose The Great British Pub forever.
