Contribute FeedbackIn a charming venue that merges a delightful atmosphere with attentively served meals, diners experience a mixed bag of offerings. While many appreciate the friendly and enthusiastic staff, the quality of the food and beverages often falls short of expectations. Highlights include well-received breakfast dishes and homemade meals like shepherd's pie and vegan options that have garnered praise for their flavors. However, concerns about coffee quality, portion sizes, and the cramped restroom arrangements near the kitchen have left some hesitant to return. Overall, the welcoming ambiance and dedicated service make it a noteworthy stop, despite some shortcomings.
This restaurant is a charming place where attentive staff serve delicious food under the watchful eye of the owner. My wife and I used to live close by and would dine here often, but now that we live overseas, we can only stop by when we visit the UK.
I stopped by for breakfast on a Sunday. The young staff were friendly and attentive, but the coffee was terrible - it seemed like cheap instant coffee brewed in a cafetiere to try and make it better. The breakfast took a long time to arrive, and when it did, it was a small portion with cheap toppings on the toast and beans that seemed to be microwaved to the point of being inedible. The only good thing was the pleasant staff, but I don't plan on returning.
Love the Anvil tearooms. A lovely atmosphere and some great cake! Dog friendly too and the staff were very helpful. Will definitely go back
My car was in for its service at the Fiat/Small Cars garage in Lower Upham on what was a wet chilly day 28th). Having brought my Spaniel along for a walk to use the time productively, we found ourselves at the your very welcoming café at around 11:00 we were WET. No problem, I was advised that we needed to seat ourselves in the wood floor area, which is where I would have chosen . Service, from the young dark haired server was polite timely. The offer a doggy treat was a pleasant surprise much appreciated . The bacon fried egg baguette I had hit the spot, as did my cappuccino. Not long after we sat down, a rescue dog in training arrived he too seemed to enjoy his possibly) 1st time out. All in all a great visit one I'm sure to repeat ..
Very busy Saturday lunchtime meal, that was far better than we had hoped for. Great enthusiastic young staff, wonderful menu and produced by the kitchen. The fact that there was so many people coming in and enjoying so great food must be heartening for the owners. In fact there was a real cross section of customer, locals, tourists, a large group , and a cycle club all happily looked after efficently, and with charm. My welsh rarebit, something I have not had for many years was superb and my parners vegetarioan soup was excellent and it was a huge bowl full. Great stuff on a damp cold day. Cakes looked so inviting as well.
