Tongs Fish And Chip Shop - Wiltshire

I visited Tongs again last night, March 8th, 2024. Tongs has been a long-standing establishment in Corsham, known for their consistently delicious fish and chips. It disappoints me to read reviews criticizing soggy chips, as Tongs' chips are exactly what you would expect from a quality fish and chip shop. They may not be crunchy, but they are soft and full of flavor.

The worst fish and chip shop I have ever been to. God knows how long they leave the food to sit after they’ve cooked it. It tastes like its been there for hours and it’s so greasy the oil it’s cooked in is obviously not fresh and has been used over and over again causing it to break down and seep into the food causing it to be greasy rather than crispy. I have been to this place several times each time hoping it was a one off. But three strikes and you’re out I’m afraid and I’m not giving you the benefit of the doubt this time.

We use Tongs 3 times a month on average and have never been disappointed. If you request kids food items and large pieces of cod then be prepared to wait for hot freshly cooked items (i have no problem in the wait). Staff friendly and very welcoming. very reasonably priced.

The fish was overcooked and subsequently tough and dry. The chips sadly didn’t fare any better. Also dry. Overall this was a very poor quality meal. Not recommended.

We have always rated Tongs very highly and now that they have gone largely plastic free in their packaging, then this rates as one of the best Take Aways in town. Really well done Tongs for removing the one-use, non-recyclable, plastic styrofoam trays and replacing them with recycled and recyclable light cardboard trays. Absolutely brilliant move, and one that I hope pays dividends for your business.
