**Dining at Tailwinds: A Mixed Bag Experience**
Nestled in the airport, Tailwinds has garnered a reputation that oscillates between delightful and disappointing. While some diners rave about the fresh, flavorful offerings and attentive service, others lament the slow service, bland food, and miscommunication about orders. The café, once a beloved spot for avocado toast and sliders, has seen a decline, with inconsistent quality and management. However, recent renovations have spurred positive reviews, highlighting a cozy atmosphere and reasonable prices. Ultimately, Tailwinds presents an unpredictable dining experience—appealing to some while leaving others disenchanted and unlikely to return.

I recently dined in for breakfast and had an absolutely delightful experience. The food was exceptional, earning a solid 5 out of 5 for its quality and flavor. The service was equally impressive, with attentive and friendly staff who enhanced the overall experience—another 5 out of 5! The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting and comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. I also appreciated the ample parking available, which made getting there a breeze. With prices per person ranging from $10 to $20, it's a fantastic value for such a high-quality dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend this spot for breakfast!
A few years ago, I would have called this place the best little airport café around. However, over the past 6 to 9 months, it has really declined and hasn’t improved. I fly out of SFG monthly—while that might not be as frequent as some, it’s still significant. My go-to dish was the avocado toast, but the last three times I've ordered it, it was almost inedible. Today, I couldn’t even bring myself to eat it. The toast wasn’t even toasted, the bacon was flimsy and cold, the tomatoes were cut half an inch thick, and the egg I ordered over medium was more like a sunny-side-up, runny mess. They offered to remake it, but I’ve lost trust in pre-cooked food. So, I asked them to toss it and let it go. I didn’t even request a refund because they’ve lost my business for good.
There are two tailwinds. The first one on the left as you walk into the terminal is a disorganized mess. My toast was cold and when I asked why it was 4 dollars more than the other tailwinds across the hall, the worker said, “That’s why I advise people not to eat at the airport.” Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
A shout out to the staff at Tailwinds: even after having to deal with annoyed passengers whose flights are delayed or canceled, they still provide great service. I've only purchased coffee from them, so I can't vouch for the food. However, they deserve kudos for being the only coffee and breakfast place opened in the very early hours, serving a ton of (mostly unhappy) customers, and totally killing it.
