I must start by saying I rarely write reviews for trip advisor. Indeed this is the first review I have written. I feel it important to relay my experience at au pair in McLaren Vale. We visited with friends. There were a number of children in the group. The restaurant took this into consideration and sat us away from other patrons. The service was personal and superb. However the main events was the food which was ou... View all feedback.
What Marquis Emard doesn't like about Au Pear:
Having been to this restaurant previously, we were greatly disappointed in the lunch. While the presentation was good the amount of food fore the main courses was too little by far. To have a Lamb Duo with only one small chop and a small piece of lamb was perhaps OK as an appetizer only. To have a minute red mullet as a main fish meal was not acceptable. To have only a few pieces of pasta in a main pasta dish was not... View all feedback.
A beautiful outlook and great modern meals using local ingredients. Meat dishes were exceptional
To have only a few pieces of pasta in a main pasta dish was not good enough. To take friends to this place was embarrassing. I must say that the cost of 2 meals was deducted by the owner, before we complained.
Interesting menu, superbly cooked. Attentive but unobtrusive service. Very tranquil environment. Good off road parking.
We booked a table for 4 at Au Pear for lunch which is located between Willunga & McLaren Vale. The restaurant is nicely decorated with clean lines in a french look. The menu is very exciting to look at with many great & interesting options - it all sounded great. Personally I ordered the Onion & Blue Cheese Tart which was great and beautifully presented - for mains I ordered the 48 hour slow cooked brisket, but I'm sorry to say was a huge let down and very average for something that has been cooked for 48 hours. My friend also had the Brisket and thought the same. We also had the Mushroom Pasta which was great and the Polenta gnocchi which was nice - however the serves of Brussels Sprouts were hard as rocks. The drinks menu was quite extensive with local wines. The service from staff was good but some lacked confidence. This place can be very busy so please ensure that you book table. Will definitely come back again as the menu sounded great.
Once again, full marks to the staff at Au Pear for the ambience, service and food. Muff and Sam do an excellent job of quietly looking after their guests and chef Ryan is just amazing ... we can't wait to go back and try some more of his wonderful dishes. The duck was sensational and the fish superb. We were lucky enough to have a sneak peak of the new Garfish entrée which was to die for .... and the new pear and brioche dessert ... yum!! The local wines are the perfect finishing touch to the whole occasion. Well done again!
