The food is fresh and delicious, the staff is friendly, and the new location in Port Noarlunga is excellent.

You place your orders at the counter inside, which can be a bit of a hassle, especially considering the prices for what is essentially simple Thai cuisine served in rather small portions. Although the wine selection features local options, the quality leaves much to be desired, which is disappointing given the variety available in the area. The food itself tends to be simple, home-style Thai cooking dressed up to resemble more upscale fare; however, some dishes fare better than others. I would advise against the lemon pepper squid, as it was chewy and didn't taste fresh. On a more positive note, the beef ginger stir fry was quite tasty, with a nice mix of vegetables and mushrooms. Just keep in mind that the rice portion was very small—more like a child's serving—so you might want to order extra (or double portions for adults, depending on your appetite). While I’ve had better Thai food in other places, Ampika is at least worth a visit if you choose to dine outside and enjoy the view.

I’ve traveled to Thailand, and I can honestly say I’ve never had food as authentic or fresh as what I enjoyed at this restaurant. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true culinary experience.
