Manny's Place - Willowick
Manny's Place
Description
A neighborhood seafood spot praised for standout items—lobster rolls, crab cakes, mussels and generous portions—often delivered with warm, homey service. Experiences are mixed: some diners rave about flavor and value, while others report inconsistent quality (spoiled crabs, small flounder, lumpy bisque), missing items, misleading portioning and spotty phone/service. Best for seafood lovers seeking hearty takeout or casual dining, but confirm orders and be prepared for variable service.

Two months ago, I placed an order for over $60 worth of food. Unfortunately, it wasn't checked, and when I got home, I found that my order was incorrect and half of it was still at the store. I contacted the restaurant and had my daughter go back to retrieve the missing items. After that experience, I promised myself I wouldn’t return, even though my family used to visit every Friday. The owner, who is quite elderly, has a really unpleasant attitude. My personal motto has always been not to pay for poor service or put up with bad behavior, but unfortunately, I didn't stick to my principles this time.
I wanted a lobster roll and was pleasantly surprised that there's a place not to far away from me. The customer service is beyond lacking. I called several times and was hung up on and called back and was told to call back in 20 minutes. Once I finally was able to order it took about 20 minutes to receive my food. I picked my food up in store. There is no greeting you when you arrive and it's not a pleasant vibe in the restaurant. I will say the food was good and I would order again so we'll see how my next experience will be.
The crabs were spoiled, and the shells were in bad condition. The chef came to our table and insisted he knew what was good and what was bad. I would never return, even if you offered me money.
The crab bisque was lumpy, though it had some flavor, and there were only five small pieces of lump crab meat. The linguini with mussel sauce, which I added to my crab order, was a decent portion. However, the stuffed flounder with spinach was quite disappointing. The piece of flounder was about the size of a folded dollar bill, and the lemon slice that came with it was almost larger than the fish itself. I understand we are currently experiencing inflation, but given the high prices of these dishes—especially the crab legs—receiving just one cluster and a claw when I paid for two is extremely misleading. I feel completely deceived by their descriptions and pricing. If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I absolutely would. I won’t be ordering from here again. Buyer beware.
