Portillo's - Willowbrook
Portillo's
Description
Portillo's is a beloved dining destination renowned for its casual ambiance and comforting food. While many patrons rave about the Chicago dog and Italian roast beef, mixed reviews highlight inconsistencies in service and food quality across locations. Experienced staff generally offer friendly, attentive service, although some visits report incorrect orders and delays. With a menu featuring tasty staples like hot dogs, fries, and decadent chocolate cake, Portillo's remains a go-to spot for both locals and visitors in the Chicago area, though experiences can vary.

The food was quite good, and we would definitely return if we find ourselves in Chicago again. As first-time visitors, we found the setup a bit confusing, especially since they don't inform you that not all items from your order are picked up at the same place. For instance, if you order pasta and hot dogs, you'll need to go to different windows to collect them. Additionally, getting a drink refill isn't a smooth process; you have to cut in front of others waiting for their food to ask for one. While the staff were generally friendly, the cashier didn't provide much assistance and seemed more focused on moving people through the line, even though there was no one behind us. On a positive note, the interior was quite interesting, featuring vintage car parts and other antiques in the central area. Overall, it was a decent spot, and the kids really enjoyed it!
I've tried calling to voice my complaints, but with no success. My recommendation? Consider ordering from Buona Beef instead; they serve a better Italian beef! At Portillo's, always make sure to stay in line and double-check your bags before leaving. I even ordered through Uber Eats and found that my meatball sandwich was missing. I raised this issue with Uber Eats, and they credited me for the sandwich, but it’s concerning to have this issue repeatedly. The manager at this Willowbrook location really needs to be held accountable. I've never experienced problems at other Portillo's locations like Elmhurst or Naperville. Normally, I adhere to the saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." However, I feel compelled to warn others about this particular Portillo's location. Stay vigilant!
I was honestly disappointed in this Portillo visit today. I got a cheeseburger, fish sandwich, fries and onion rings. The cheeseburger wasn't as good as it usually is. The fish sandwich was soggy, greasy and just not good. The tartar sauce was too sweet and tangy. French fries were cold and old. The onion rings were decent. This visit fell very short. Not sure if I would return to this location.
