Went to the Williamsburg Inn, Terrace Room. Had previously been to the Regency Room and the Rockefeller Room. Both of those were elegant, with great food and service, where the men dressed in coat and tie, and the women wore dresses. The Terrace Room is a scaled down version. Dress code is Business Casual. The menu had only a few entrees. My meal was a Chef's Special of scallops, which was very good. My partner had a... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Terrace Goodwin Rooms:
I was challenged to find an appetizer to start which is rare for me. So we skipped and went right to the main course. I ordered scallops which were good but the Brussel sprouts tasted like they were cooked three days ago. Husband ordered a hamburger medium and it came out well done. They took off bill. We waited 40 minutes for our meal. Very disappointed in our experience. On top of it all we were put in a room acros... View all feedback.
The food was not as good as I had expected for the price. I had the mushroom pot pie and the puff pastry on top was tough and the pie part a bit dry. The flavours were good though. Our water glasses were never refilled. We ordered the egg nog cheesecake based on recommendation and that too was a bit dry. A nice family outing and the place is beautiful. Staff friendly as well. You pay for the atmosphere!
My wife and I were in Williamsburg for just one night and after a long day of travel we hoped to have a great meal in an historic setting. The Terrace Room at the Williamsburg Inn fulfilled our hopes. Service was prompt but leisurely and our server (Traevyon? was attentive and pleasantly interactive. Our cocktails were “just right” and paired well with the Roasted Oysters appetizer. Both entrees were hot and full of flavor. Hamilton's Alexander, a lighter take on the classic Brandy Alexander, was a perfect after dinner cocktail to wrap up the experience!
Williamsburg Inn is pretty. They had several dining areas set up for Christmas muted lighting, soft music, romantic and festive decor and ambience. We were walked past those lovely spaces and were seated in the “Regency Room” a dreadful overflow space that had no holiday ambiance and was lit up by fluorescents like a high school cafeteria. 15 minutes after sitting, we finally got water and menus after watching the servers try to figure out who should wait on us. They made a poor choice. Our server took our order twice, still got it wrong. Cauliflower soup was tasty but cold. Lamb mince pie filling was lovely. Crust was tasteless and stale. Ham Entree included broccoli rabe and it was so overcooked it was inedible. Ham and osso bucco spent too much time under heat lamps so both were overcooked and dry. Potatoes dauphinoise were the highlight of the ham meal. Osso bucco was mostly bone and maybe 2 ounces of dried overcooked stringy meat no highlights there. Desserts were a mixed bag. The bread pudding was dried out to the texture of a crouton. The crème brûlée was very well prepared. This meal was to be the highlight of our Williamsburg Christmas, and sadly it took the shine right off our holiday experience. I rarely write bad reviews but this one was just so disappointing. Heartbreaking, really.
On top of it all we were put in a room across from The Terrace Room which I was also very sad about. Didn't realize when you book Terrace Room you may not get it. My glass of wine was $18 and beer was $9. A few dollars less for what we ordered would have been fair. Catering to tourists not to locals looking for a nice date night out. What a shame.
The food and service from our server Ferhat was wonderful. We enjoyed and shared a nice red wine with the filet served with root vegetables and mashed potatoes. The assistant server Mahsum was just as professional and attentive to our table as well as others. Make your reservation at least a month in advance.
