Probably the best and most authentic Mexican food in the valley, led by fantastic locals and not a big franchise. If you didn't try to do it!!! Not a beautiful place, but my friend who misses his mother's cooking, who was born and raised in Mexico, says that this is the only place he has ever found with rice and beans that really tastes like them, and I will be for the fact that he was quite emotional (if not be susc... What Felicity O'Hara doesn't like about El Zocalo Mexican:
I was there in the evening for takeout. I understand that the majority of their business is lunch but serving dried out enchiladas is not acceptable . Red sauce was entirely dried out on top of tasteless enchiladas. They appeared to have been sitting all day. At least add some fresh sauce. Disappointed. View all feedback.
The food here is delicious! I think it's very authentic. They have familiar offerings if you want something like burritos or enchiladas. But if you're into the real stuff, they have tacos made with tongue meat (my fave) or chilaquiles con queso fresco.
This place is amazing! The service is incredibly quick, the food is fresh, and the staff is incredibly friendly. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. I also loved the artwork on the walls. The portion sizes and prices are truly exceptional!
Always amazing, beginning to end. Great food, and authentic Mexican. Friendly, attentive service. A clean restaurant with a cheerful, casual atmosphere I love the murals. They're easily able to get customers in, fed, and back to work before lunch break is over, if that's the objective... But they also let diners with more time linger without pressure. This is probably my favorite place to meet a visiting friend for a casual weekday lunch, and not only because they've easily handled my food allergy every time without a problem. It's BYOB for alcoholic drinks, which I've never done there, and they apparently have a great breakfast I haven't tried yet as well. Oh and they deliver, via a third party service. Give them a try; you'll be glad you did!
I visited for the first time today and ordered a burrito the size of my forearm, accompanied by three sauces, including an amazing cheese sauce. I'm often inclined to find something to criticize about my meals, but I was too busy savoring this one to bother. This is truly some of the best food I've ever had in the Valley!
El Zocalo is a modest restaurant located right in the heart of downtown on the public square. Don't be misled by its simple decor—this place serves exceptional food that is genuinely Mexican, unlike the often diluted Tex-Mex options found in many places far from vibrant Mexican-American communities. The tacos here are the real deal—not the fast food kind. Each order comes with fresh cilantro, white onions, lime wedges, and spicy salsa, perfectly complementing the lightly toasted tortillas available with fillings like al pastor, lengua, tripas, or carnitas. The prices are also very reasonable, with a 3-for-$8.50 taco deal or the option to mix and match a la carte. One minor downside is that the high volume of takeout orders can impact the dining experience, as the sole staff member manages both takeout and dine-in customers. Still, it's a convenient, authentic, and affordable spot for lunch.
