Saw it in passing and it looked good: small, old, off the beaten track, so returned for lunch. I dined alone there were two other people in the restaurant. Small wooden interior with cellar like rooms with elegant decor and linen napkins. There was a complementary little bowl of a fish mousse on the table with bread. There was little choice on the lunch menu. I reluctantly ordered the Wienerschnitzel, the friendly waiter asked if I 'd like a salad, I said I would like one. The schnitzel arrived almost immediately it was two large fillets, I could only eat one. By its nature Wienerschnitzel is dry, but this was dry dry and accompanied by, four or five little roundels of fried potato. The 'salad ' was an overflowing bowl of un dressed Iceberg lettuce with some cress and a couple of tiny slices of anaemic tomato. I had to make my own dressing from the table oil and some malt vinegar. The schnitzel was 19.80 euros, the salad 4.80 euros and a non alcohol beer was 4.80. there was a 3.50 cover charge. I complained, reluctantly, to the waiter about the salad and its price. I said I wouldn 't pay for it as I had hardly eaten it. He looked crestfallen and said that if I didn 't pay, the management would charge it to him. I paid in full and left after the waiter kindly, at my request, wrapped the remaining schnitzel fillet for me to take away and I 'd written a brief, annoyed, note to the absent management. It could be, under good management and a great chef be a jewel of Vienna but... Moral: Don 't judge covers etc. Robert Tilleard

If you are in Vienna and want to eat close to the center try this restaurant.It is very nice place,romantic and quite. The food is delicios but very expensive. The personal wasn't so friendly but it is ok to eat lunch here.Out side is written that they served day menu but when you go inside they don't have.Please be carefoul with this.

Ich war mit einem ausländischen Freund auf der Suche nach eine stillen Plätzchen für das Abendessen und schlug das Restaurant 'Zum Basilisken ' vor. Eine Wahl, die wir nicht bereuen mussten. Es ist ruhig, in einer der ältesten Gassen von Wien gelegen. Das stilvolle Ambiente ist besonders hervorzuheben Die Bedienung, ein jüngerer Kellner, war sehr aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Die Tische waren adrett, mit Stoffservietten, feinen Tischtüchern gedeckt. Nach unserer Getränkebestellung erhielten wir, wie in vielen anderen gehobeneren Restaurants, ein 'Gedeck ' und das sollte nicht, wie hier geschrieben, mit einem 'Gruß aus der Küche ' verwechselt werden. Daher wird es, sofern angenommen, auch verrechnet. Das Essen war sehr gut, dazu nahmen wir einen Weißwein. Sicher, es gibt preisgünstigere Lokalitäten aber sicher nicht direkt im Stadtzentrum. Wer schon Mal in Paris war, weiß, wovon ich spreche, abgesehen davon, dass man dort auch im Hinblick auf ein Gedeck 'En France on mange francais ' zu hören bekommt; . Es war ein durchaus gelungener Abend, der nichts zu wünschen übrig ließ.

Wir hatten glücklicherweise kein Gedeck bekommen, vielleicht weil wir keine Touristen waren eigentlich wollt ich es aber sie meinte na sprich ihn nicht an. Meine Freundin hat einen Tafelspitz gegessen und ich Zwiebelrostbraten. Der Tafelspitz war gut und das Fleisch zart. Von meinem Zwiebelrostbraten war das Fleisch zäh und 10% Rosa gebraten. Preisverhältnis etwas teures. Der Kellner war freundlich und aufmerksam. Ambiente wunderschön.

Sehr gutes Essen und noch besseres Bier, wunderschöne Einrichtung
