On our last night in Vienna, we wanted something good quality and with Viennese character and we found both as we were walking in the side streets of Mariahilfestrasse looking for somewhere to eat. Warmly decorated (it might as well be their living room), the owner knew exactly what to recommend and the food was fantastic. Because of her, I know now what the real "Kartoffelnsalat" (potato salad) should be like and sh... View all feedback.
Wandering around this part of town my twin brother Stephen and I stumbled upon Gasthaus Seidl Schmankerl and what a great find. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, a traditional authentic interior, vintage decor and furnishings including a superb...solid wood serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this tavern, it's a proper locals hangout. We were here on a Friday evening, we very luckily managed to get a table as this place was busy, we ordered beers while we checked out the menu, beers arrived iced cold and sparkling and for our meal we opted to have schnitzel, boiled potatoes and veg, after a relatively short wait our meals arrived and what a treat. The schnitzel was outstanding, a huge plate sized schnitzel, beautifully cooked and really tasty as were the boiled potatoes, a really super and filling meal, washed down with our delicious beers made for a memorable dining experience in a unique tavern. We moved on after our delicious meal and beers and for a first time visit we were totally impressed with this tavern. Gasthaus Seidl Schmankerl is easy to locate on Schottenfeldgasse. Opening hours are; Monday, Closed. Tuesday to Saturday, Open from 11.30am. Sunday, Closed. A great tavern and well worth checking out if your in the area.
Just arrived in Vienna for a few days and this place was a couple of doors away from our apartment. Interior was interesting, almost a ‘at home’ feel to it. Our German is non existent bar the basics so we struggled with the menu but...the host helped us as much as she could. Seeing the schnitzel on a nearby plate it had to be done, when in Wien! Portions were great, with fried potato, side salad and a tasty beer to wash it down with. Super start for our trip! The only slight embarrassment was when paying they only accept cash, so quick trip to ATM was required. Note that smoking is also allowed inside, this may deter some people.
It was our last day in Vienna and we finally found the perfect place! Cuisine was outstanding, beer very food, atmosphere fantastic! Huge dishes, good prices. Can’t recommend enough. No english menu, which is always a good sign
