Was Alan Fahey at Das Heinz a mag?
We ate here upon recommendation from our hotel K+K Palais. After an unexpected cold wet snowy day the restaurant was warm and inviting. The server was very helpful in recommending dishes, I had the horse saltimbocca with Jerusalem artichoke cream. It was a step out on my part but it was delicious. My friend had a pasta dish she enjoyed as well. We had their version of a Radler beer that was very good. The dessert was... View all feedback.
What Tancredi Leone dislikes about Das Heinz:
we arrived rather late but they kept their kitchen open for us and the service was very good and friendly. However the food didnot live up to the rest of the set-up. It was rather plain cafe food at best and overpriced as such. But a nice place for a drink I would say. View all feedback.

We would definitely recommend.
As this restaurant was next to the K+K Palais we booked in one night. Its a lovely place, non smoking which is a bonus as many restaurants still allow smoking. A great choice of local dishes and the staff were excellent and very well priced. Thoroughly recommended.
I was in Vienna for a conference and my mom traveled with me. On our third day in Vienna, we happened by Das Heinz while walking to a park (right across the street) from our nearby hotel. We were greeted by the friendly staff and seated a nice table in the cheery dining room. While we perused the menu, we both immediately noticed that the menu had a section for cheval (horse)! I had tried this before, from Canada, but my mom had not. While she is a horse lover (and used to own 4 of them!) she couldn't pass up the opportunity to try something new. Both being adventurous, she had the horse burger, and I order the special, a horse goulash. We enjoyed some local wines with the dinner. The meal was incredibly good. I know many people will turn up their nose at the thought of eating horse, but actually, the conditions horses are kept is far superior than the feed lots that beef cattle are kept on - it is far more humane for the horses than any cow. But I digress...The meal was superb and the service was excellent. We also enjoyed a cake of the day (chocolate) that we delicious, and some great after dinner coffees. The restaurant was in a great location and the food so good, that we returned to the restaurant two more times during our week in Vienna. Other dishes we tried were the duck (incredible, great portion and cooked PERFECTLY), the Viennese fried beef (very different, and tasty/tender), the pork schnitzel (awesome) and the pferd strogranoff (probably my favorite dish) - many things to try and I highly recommend this restaurant!
The irony was not lost on us. In the morning we visited the Spanish Riding School, and in the evening we found ourselves looking at a menu where horsemeat loomed large! We didn't let the irony hold us back...Das Heinz is like a glorified British food pub, right down to the blackboard for "specials". But that's where the pub ends and Austria begins, because the menu is something quite special. We began with interesting starters - mine was a roasted vegetable salad - but we both chose the horsemeat goulash with polenta to follow. The meat, for those with no inhibitions about it, was delicious - tender and tasty, a texture not unlike venison. The meal drops a point simply because the sauce was overseasoned, way too salty, but otherwise very good indeed. On the drinks side, beers are good value, wines rather less so.Service was excellent, attentive and engaged without being intrusive. It's not a cheap eat, but it is well worth it.
