At Scholars, Blackburn College’s student-run restaurant, talented 16–19-year-old chefs deliver an inventive, beautifully presented plant-based four-course menu that punches above its modest price. Guided by experienced mentors, the team pairs fine-dining technique with warm, personal front-of-house service in a relaxed, friendly setting. The experience is excellent value for vegans, foodies and supporters of culinary education — just be sure to book ahead, as seating is limited and walk-ins aren’t guaranteed.

I recently dined at Scholars, a restaurant at Blackburn College where catering students prepare a vegan plant-based menu priced at £12. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience as the food was delicious, beautifully presented, and cooked with skill. It was a joy to eat dishes that were thoughtfully created and passionately cooked by chefs as young as 16 to 19 years old. The vegan options here were not just an afterthought, but carefully crafted and exciting. I had the opportunity to chat with student chefs Imogen and Gem, who were enthusiastic about their cooking. The front of house team was equally impressive, ensuring our dining experience was enjoyable. Special thanks to mentor chef Dave and restaurant manager Karen for introducing such a fantastic vegan menu. I am already looking forward to my next visit.
You won't regret visiting this incredible restaurant, but make sure to plan ahead as it can get busy. Expect top-notch service, delicious food, and a laid-back atmosphere. Don't forget to leave a tip, as it greatly helps the staff, especially since the 4-course menu is under £15 per person. It would be rude not to show your appreciation.
Loved our meal the experience was brilliant, the students were really trying and were attentive and chatty. The Food was amazing and we will certainly be returning for sure. Keep doing what you're doing it's a fantastic opportunity for students in the Blackburn area. See you again soon x
Just been for a team meal all I can say is wow. The food, the service all the staff were amazing. Everything had a smile on their faces and couldn’t be more helpful. I will definitely be coming again and recommending scholars to others. Well done to all involved .. absolutely brilliant experience.
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was heavenly, the service really personal and attentive. Will definitely be back, I'm telling all my closest friends to try it for themselves!
