TAKO @ Hamilton ISland - WHITSUNDAYS

Arrived around half 8 and were told they stopped serving at 9. Restaurant was dead but had a short wait for a table. Ordered cocktails - very nice. Went to our table and were told someone will explain how the menu works. We waited but the next person who came over just asked for our order so we had to say it hadn't been explained. We love Mexican so didnt take long to order and the food came quick. However food- not nice! Reef fish was, as someone has already said, horrible and couldn't be finished. It was cold and seemed undercooked. The meat dish we ordered was also cold and the nachos had a slight burnt taste. While eating we were asked twice if we would like to order dessert in advance as kitchen was closing, and the restaurant packed up around us. We expressed our disappointment to the manager at the time and he said he would have a word with the staff. So disappointing for a luxury island!

Recommend TAKO. Good mexican food and great speedy service. We enjoyed the mayan chicken, beef taco, corn chips topped off with churros.

We were really hungry and rocked up here around 7:30 pm and were told there would be a 30 minute wait and to have a drink at the bar. The Bar was packed. Nowhere to sit or even room to stand, so we headed down the road for a pre-dinner drink. Finally our buzzer signalled we had a table. Headed back and got there within 3 minutes, only to be told our table had just been given to another family. Very, very annoying after an entire day of hiking and water activities. We were exhausted By the time we got seated it was almost 9 pm. We were starving. So we ordered a lot. SO disappointing. Everything I ate was bland and tasteless. The only dish I mildly enjoyed was a Mayan chicken quesadilla. We ordered the Reef fish taco. Horrible and watery with heaps of tasteless mayonnaise. I couldn't finish mine. Pulled pork tacos (I couldn't even eat one whole one. BLAND. I left it on my plate). The prawn and chorizo taco was ok according to my kids. They ate them. We ordered the slow cooked Angus steak with cabbage. It didn't arrive at all the quacamole and corn chips was ok. They did bring some tacos with steak in them which my kids said were nice. We were still hungry so ordered their signature dish the Octopus tacos. Horrible. Would not go back here. It's packed because it's the cheapest restaurant on the marina. If you read my other reviews you will note I barely complain but this whole experience was a downer. I felt sorry for the staff because they had too many tables to wait on. Took 15 minutes to get a waiter's attention to order something. I would never recommend this place. They need a flavour injection!!! Noisy, overcrowded, slow service and just not a pleasant dining experience at all. Staff were very pleasant. No complaints there.

Family with two teenagers- both boys had beef plank and thought it delicious , halloumi salad was great, tortillas of two types were average. Arrived at 615 and seated straightaway but very quickly filled up -queue out the door by the time we left at 745
