Contribute FeedbackThe Mainwaring Arms, once a popular spot, now falls short with limited menu options, shabby decor, and lackluster service. From cramped seating to undercooked meals, guests were left disappointed. The pub also struggled with booking issues and outdated facilities. However, not all reviews were negative. Some praised the warm atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff, earning the pub a spot as a charming countryside gem. While not without faults, the Mainwaring Arms is still seen as a potential dining destination for those looking for a cozy, welcoming pub experience.
We weren't for a meal. The menu was very limited and any dish we were fed from the menu. This made us choose with very little. We just chose fish and chips to find out there is no fish. We drove almost an hour to meet friends, just to be embarrassed and very disappointed about what was on offer. The staff didn't seem to be harassed, so we went out. We apologized to our friends and made our way home.
Really disappointed. Could not be booked by phone after numerous calls so open table. Although email confirmation pub had no record. Good job just eat three of us. The open fires filled the pub with smoke that hurt our eyes and our clothes smoke tank. Menu very limited and then certain food from the menu this night. Didn't even have vanilla ice cream!! Girls were friendly and apologetic, but not for the evening. I'm sorry, not usually complain, but think that the mainwaring need to know something that slipping had nice meals there before, but the menu really needs to look.
Great food. The service was brilliant all staff really friendly and knowledgeable. We were made to feel so welcome.
Fabulous country pub, great atmosphere and outstanding service. The food is prepared fresh on the day and the ingredients locally sourced. The results are food of a consistently very high standard delivered to your table. What more could you want?
It’s been several years since I last visited the Mainwaring Arms. It used to be one of the “in places” to visit ..I don’t think it is anymore. It looks tired, shabby even. The blackboards for specials etc had not been updated. The gents toilets were dirty smelly. I was ignored by the couple behind the bar for around 5 minutes while they focused on getting the till working. So much so that a local sitting at the bar said “ you must be invisible mate “ I had prebooked a table for 4 for 5.45pm , as we were on our way to a concert in Trentham. I was told our table number only to find another couple sitting there. The barman/ landlord said in that case sit at table 8. This is not a table , more a board with bench seating either side. It is impossible for 4 adults to sit opposite each other with their plates . We had to stagger ours in order to fit them on the table, sorry board. The Pork Loin was advertised with mash ..it came with underdone boiled potatoes. The sausage and mash came with very lumpy dry mash . The chips were so overdone they were almost black. I won’t be returning for some considerable time. Very disappointed as we have been to other Joules pubs and been impressed
