Busy restaurant, but the service was excellent. We shared appetizers with our table companions and then enjoyed the halibut. I quite liked the giraffe napkin holders. Felt they added to the atmosphere. Nice view of the White Rock pier and excellent people watching from the restaurant. They provide blankets to keep customers warm, which I think is a nice touch. What Lemuel Mitchell doesn't like about Giraffe Restaurant:
We visited this restaurant the first time and have to say it was just okay. Definitely not great. Menu was quite ambitious. We tried two different appetizers, two entrees and one dessert. Lack of flavouring and originality. The filet mignon was cooked well but had very little seasoning. Wine list was uninteresting and the markup was immense. Atmosphere was pleasant and service was good. We probably won't go back. View all feedback.
The restaurant took our reservation early in the day and we felt fortunate to have a spot on their small deck in the summer. Upon arrival they had secured our table and we were seated instantly. The waiter knew the menu well and had a cute chalkboard to show us the specials. Water was provided and frequently topped. Wine was poured for us from the small decanters rather than just a large glass of wine. Linen tablecloths and napkins. The chairs were comfy but perhaps a bit too low from the table which meant we both had to sit upright rather than relax. Candles were provided later in the evening. The deck has some lovely ivy and flowers which helped to divide us from the busy sidewalk. This time of year the beach traffic is loud and busy but we were still able to enjoy each others conversations. We were given a cute giraffe chocolate when we paid our bill. The washroom was clean and in decent condition.I had the bavette steak $24 and my friend had the angel hair pasta with seafood $29. Both of us enjoyed our meals. The wines were acceptably priced. The service was professional, prompt and appropriately matched to the prices of the menu. I will recommend this restaurant to others.
Our brunch was delightful. The Dungeness crab eggs benedict were absolutely delicious. Others in the group had smoked salmon eggs benny and another the crab salad. All said their meals were delicious.
Celebration dinner for two on a Saturday night. We were seated inside. First impression was "old": old furniture, old carpet, meant to appeal to an older crowd. We had soup, a salad, a filet, the lamb sirloin, and we split the Irish whiskey creme brulee. While everything tasted fresh and was made with good ingredients, there was virtually no special flavor to any of it. Other than meat, the main flavour on the filet was grill char, not a hint of the supposed garlic rub or anything else to augment the beef. The supposed mushroom crust on the lamb was also not evident. Same with the supposed garlic in the new potatoes. The sauteed vegetables were exactly that: vegetables that had been sauteed. No herbs, no spices, nothing. The creme brulee was tasty, but there was nothing special about it.I have been married for 28 years, and it was the first time I had seen my wife reach for the salt at a restaurant. We were not sure that there was even a garlic bulb or an onion in the kitchen. When I am paying $30 for entrees, I expect more than merely having food items cooked and put on a plate. Minimally, I expect the flavours listed on the menu to be evident, at least in a hint. In summary, the quality of the food and the service were both fine. The quality of the cooking was sadly lacking for the money.

Fantastic dinner at Giraffe again. Just love the food and the great service by Jamie. Had a selection of martinis at the table as well as several bottles of wine. Had a selection of appies to share. the sable fish and beef tenderloin were great. Our guest had a problem with the lamb loin as it was over cooked. Sent back and replaced. Ended with cream brule Yummm
