I wasn't expecting it to be great, because I had friends who ate here years ago and told me not to expect much. But my dinner was great and the chef was accommodating to gluten free issues. I had the Salmon Hanna and it was delicious. My friend had the crab and shrimp Alfredo pasta and she loved that the Alfredo sauce wasn't overpowering the dish. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The green fried tomato's were amazin... View all feedback.
What red tiger doesn't like about The Mansion:
Total disappointment and the fact that there was a shortage of food on Thanksgiving as well as non existent service charged at 22.2 on the taxed total is absolute highway robbery!Esp when the server was not available for coffee tea water and made no mention of the added gratuity that was tucked under the presented bill. No bread? No deserts? Dirty dishes piled up on our table from other customers? They ran out of turk... View all feedback.
The atmosphere is great and the food is excellent. The shrimp were cooked to perfection.
Currently, the restaurant is having issues. It is no where near the quality, or service that it was in previous years. We would have walked out, if we didn 't specifically come to Nottoway to be at the mansion. To eat dinner took 1.5 hours. That wasn 't because we just sat around and looked at the scenery. The wait staff was completely overwhelmed. Every table waited for service. The one next took us waited over 20 minutes for just the check, after asking. The dinning room was no where near full either. Management needs to fix thier staffing issues.Additionally, things are not being taken care around the restaurant. There are light bubs out everywhere. We ate in the veranda and actually had to turn a light to our table after the sun went down to have light to eat. I counted one out of six functioning bulbs in the two tables in our seating area. None of the mini split AC units are functioning in the veranda, either, so its hot and the dining room AC is the only cooling available. In regards to the food, the menu is much more limited than previous years. No steaks. The food was 'good ' but not excellent as it had previously been. The prices are still high, and the food was on par with a chain sit down place.Lastly, the drink situation was bad. There was no drink menu to be found. I actually had to go to the bar and physically look at what they had in stock to know what alcohol they had. The wait staff had no idea what kind of wines they stocked at all. The table next to us had multiple issues with the server even knowing the difference in a red and white wine.I have been kind in the rating to only give three stars. With any other place, I would have only awarded two stars. But I really like Nottoway and I know how great the restaurant used to be, so I am hoping that they can get it together. However, at ANY other place, I would have walked out FOR SURE. Please use this review as a way to get things together and fix the problems, so we can come back and enjoy the resort. Our dinner was our way of supporting the house as charity because no one would likely come and pay the menu prices for what we received.
We confirmed a reservation 3 times at this restaurant before arriving. 1 before traveling, another before arriving and the last the moment we arrived earlier in the afternoon. When we arrived at the restaurant at our More than confirmed time, we were told that we couldn 't sit, that it was closed and we couldn 't eat. Note, this was on a Saturday, closing time is set to 9pm Our reservation was at 8:15pm We arrive, they tell us No, and they give us absolutely no solution, we ask if maybe a sandwich can be made And we 're told they don 't serve sandwiches How hard can it be to make a sandwich? Anyway Ridiculous, make sure to confirm 100 times if you even bother eating here or you might go to bed without eating
The Nottoway Plantation and Castle is amazing, impressive, elegant and historic. Unfortunately, on 2 occasions (I 've only been in the restaurant twice) the food was questionable, at best. 1st time, the soup (don 't recall what type) was excellent, but the shrimp etouffee on rice was 80% gelled goo, and less than an ounce of difficult to see (tiny) shrimp. 2nd visit no soup ordered, had the daily special fried catfish. It arrived with a scoop of good (but room temperature) mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The catfish was a single, rather large fillet, but it has a serious problem. It emitted a stench that gave me the impression that someone close by cherry bombed a truck stop restroom. Seriously. A vile smell. I am not a picky eater, I 'll eat anything, but not what this fish was soaked in. We both had a desert that was excellent, cheese cake. The service in both visits was OUTSTANDING, courteous, friendly and makes you want to be there and keep going back, but I caution you to eat before you go.
We ate dinner and breakfast here. The redfish was fresh and tasted amazing! My mother had chicken. I was not expecting it to be that good.
