This restaurant can be best described as a hidden gem with delicious food. You enter through a fish market and in the back is a bar filled with locals, indicating that they are trying to keep it a well-kept secret. The appearance may not be much, but the quality of the food is exceptional. The beer selection was average. View all feedback.
What Cor van Leeuwen doesn't like about Cap'n Cats Clam Tavern:
This restaurant is terrible, it's dirty and all the food is frozen and not fresh. I was very disappointed and wouldn't recommend eating here. The price per person is $10–20, with a rating of 1 for food, 2 for service, and 2 for atmosphere. There is plenty of parking available in a free parking lot. View all feedback.
Very good place, my grandfather used to come here way back when it had a dirt floor. Predominantly seafood, but its all quality stuff
Usually this location is pretty hit or miss but lately, it has definitely been a miss! A few friends of mine, my husband and I dined there last weekend and was disappointed to say the least. Out of almost $300 spent, the only thing that came out hot was the corn and the soup. That is purely ridiculous. Once we notified the waitress that the crab legs and shrimp were cold, she offered to reheat, which just further dried them out. I don?t understand how food is supposedly just prepared and is already cold. The worse part is they weren?t even busy. Food should never come out cold and have to be reheated especially in cases when the reheating it will cause the flavor to be compromised. Furthermore, the crab legs had no seasoning to it whatsoever, again, I don?t understand how you can?t sprinkle a bit of old bay and garlic on them. My friend dined there last night and stated the same issue, food cold, dried out crab legs and flavorless. Needless to say, that was my last time dining at this location and the last time paying top notch prices for subpar food!
Received completely disgusting and unprofessional service today. Was served undercooked fish and then when asked if it could be cooked longer we were instead yelled at by the cook in front of the entire restaurant where he came out with a thermometer and said we were wrong and it came out of the kitchen at 113 degrees (which is still undercooked). It?s bad enough that food costs are so high therefore raising menu prices, but if I?m paying that much for a dish I expect it to be at least fully cooked. This was one of our favorite spots and is now crossed off our list. Please do better with your employees or more customers are going to be driven away. Never in my life have I seen this kind of behavior.
I have gone here for about 8 years, and never had a complaint. The seafood platters were always hot and tasty and the appetizers fresh. But in the last year or so, it has gotten indescribably worse. I don't know if the cook is different, or the restaurant changed hands or something, but the food has taken a hard left turn now. A few weeks back, my boss got food poisoning from spoiled cole slaw and puked for hours. When I ordered for lunch take-out recently, my clam chowder was literally cold and congealed in the container and the broccoli was cooked so long it was mush. Not sure what is going on here but all I can say is, it's definitely not worth the $70 it costs for a 2-person meal. Sad, because this is the original Cap'ns and it used to be great.
Great food service. Fantastic environment welcoming bartenders. The best crabs, freshly shucked oysters clams, and seafood platters around! Bring the whole family.
