Kwai - Westmount
Kwai
Description
In the vibrant dining scene of Montreal, two starkly different experiences emerge at a local restaurant. One group encounters a disappointing evening marred by poor service and lackluster dishes. An hour-long wait between courses and unresponsive staff overshadow their meal, making the fried chicken a particular letdown. Conversely, another couple discovers a hidden gem in a newly opened Thai restaurant, boasting playful decor and creative cuisine. They rave about the Pla Rad Prik and a unique cucumber ice cream dessert, eagerly anticipating their next visit. This juxtaposition of culinary experiences highlights the restaurant landscape’s unpredictability in the city.

What can you say? if you can have a good experience in this joint, good for them! the eating was subpar. service was terrible. waited an hour between the curses - no one came by to offer everything - we had to finally find a busboy to find our order. Nice. the dishes were small, expensive and disappointing. the fried chicken was shameful. they will certainly avoid that at all costs. when the chef rounded and asked us (as we tried to get out to not be asked) as our dinner was, we answered very badly disappointing. when we specifically mention the fried huh, the chef answer was oh everyone else likes it. so much for feedback. avoid this joint.
We were pleased with finding this relatively newly opened Thai restaurant. The decor, much like next door's Park, was playful, roomy, and upbeat. The cuisine is creative Thai: we shared three dishes and concurred that our favorite was the Pla Rad Prik, and beautifully flavoured dish. The dessert, a cucumber ice cream with meringues on a cake was divine. We'll be back!
What can I say? If you manage to have a good experience at this place, consider yourself lucky! Unfortunately, the food was below average, and the service was absolutely terrible. We waited an entire hour between courses, and no one came to check on us. We eventually had to track down a busboy just to inquire about our order. The portion sizes were small, the prices steep, and the overall experience was quite disappointing. The fried chicken was especially shameful. I'd strongly recommend steering clear of this restaurant. When the chef made the rounds to ask how our meal was, we tried to leave quietly, but when we specifically mentioned the fried chicken, he simply replied that everyone else seems to enjoy it. Clearly, they don't take feedback seriously. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
