I discovered an outstanding small-town restaurant with fantastic food and generous portion sizes. I came here after my initial choice was closed, and I regret not making this my top pick from the start. I began with a cup of seafood chowder that was practically a bowl — the broth was spot on and the variety of seafood was impressive. It made for a wonderful appetizer. I also tried the Rappie Pie, since I figured when in Nova Scotia... It was decent, but it didn't quite resonate with me. The quality was excellent, but it was my first experience with it at my mom's encouragement, and it just wasn't for me. I doubt I would enjoy it anywhere else, so I'm not criticizing this dish, which is an Acadian classic. I finished with a Swedish Apple Pie, which was absolutely delightful. If you're in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping by Red Cap. There was only one server when I visited, and she was incredibly pleasant and attentive. She did an excellent job!

Ive been to a couple place before. Ive had a couple fresh seafood dinners. Maine has good seafood. Southern or Western Nova Scotia depending on your orientation has better. Probably one of the best, freshest seafoods Ive ever had. Absolutely delicious and spectacular. While we are on the subject we had extremely, friendly, great customer service. The restaurant is very homey, clean, and tight. I had the seafood chowder so good. And Fish and Chips awesome. And I washed it down with a nice Canadian draft brew. My GF had the seafood platter (clams, oysters, all that stuff) and she really liked it. Oh, yeah. Big tyme, big time. I saw someone gave a one star review. Disregard overlook that. Its not credible.

Helen and Tina are very gracious hosts; they made our overnight stay a great experience. The room was very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open when we were there but a breakfast menu was offered to overnight guests so that they could have something to eat to start the day. Great breakfast and much appreciated. Would stay at the Red Cap anytime.

This was simply amazing. This tiny little unassuming spot, in a tiny little town on the south shore of Nova Scotia just provided the BEST meal I have had in a long, long time. My only regret is that I am only one woman, and could not try everything on the menu. We wound up here after a slight miscommunication, turns out our own bed and breakfast is literally just that no lunch or dinner on weekdays. We were offered a ride to Red Cap and that 's how a terrible situation becomes magical. The exterior is nothing to write home about, in face, left alone I would not have known to stop here. It is also an inn and provides rooms. We were only there for supper. Also, they close at 8pm on weeknights, which gave me some concern as we showed up at around 7:50 I fully expected to get end of night, warmed over food . Nope. We were treated to a friendly greeting, and directed to a comfortable dining room. The menu was surprisingly huge, and contained many gluten free items as did the dessert menu. I ordered 6 broiled oysters to start. The BEST oysters I 've ever eaten (former New Orleanian here). Citrusy, flavorful, and perfect. I also had a class of the local Pinot Grigio amazing. Then, I had the grilled scallops a massive portion that came with cooked carrots and parsnips and mashed potatoes. There were no survivors. My best friend had the salmon and haddock fish cakes. I don 't think either of us spoke a single word until the plates were cleaned. Every bite was heaven. Then coconut cream pie. And coffee. And slowly rolling out the door. Dang that was good food. It would be worth going to Nova Scotia even just to eat here and nothing else. Go here. Every day.

I had an excellent rappie pie for lunch today. It had a wonderfully crispy exterior and a soft, flavorful filling. The service was friendly, and my meal arrived hot from the kitchen. The desserts at nearby tables looked tempting, but I was too full from the generous portion. A big thumbs up to the Red Cap Cafe!

This was by far the best meal I've ever had! The seafood crepe was absolutely exquisite—like tasting the sky on a plate. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: CA$30–40 Service: 5 stars.

I had the fish cake served with salad and chow chow, as well as a club sandwich made with real chicken and clams, accompanied by a twice-baked potato. Everything was served hot and in generous portions. The restaurant itself was very clean, and the service was excellent. I will definitely be returning, as the prices were very reasonable. Overall, I would rate it as follows: Food: 5, Service: 5, Location: 5, Atmosphere: 5.

Great Food Great Service: Dine in Meal Type: Lunch Price per person: CA$20–30 Recommended dishes: Seafood Crepes, Haddock Lobster Sauce, Clams and Fries

Haddock and lobster sauce was some of the best I have had in the tri counties! The atmosphere was nice except that I found it very hot and stuffy in there! Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
