Best Thai food in South Florida! If you're looking for an upscale setting with a great atmosphere, this isn't the spot for you. People come here for the incredible food, excellent prices, and fantastic quick service. While the exterior may seem a bit worn, it's truly a hidden gem! Without a doubt, one of my favorite restaurants! View all feedback.
I love their curry! They've been in business for over 35 years for a reason. Although there’s a new owner, the same chef and servers are still here, consistently delivering delicious food.
However, during our visit last night, we discovered that the restaurant is now under new ownership. This has brought significant changes to the menu and the food itself, and it’s clear that more alterations are on the way. Everything we once loved about A1 Thai seems to be fading into the past. For instance, the beautifully delicious and original A1 spring rolls (served in 6 pieces) have been replaced by ordinary spring rolls (just 4 pieces) that you could find at any Thai restaurant or even in the frozen food aisle of a grocery store. Furthermore, the hot sauce we used to receive with our meals has been swapped out for a hodgepodge of mismatched brand soy sauce packets, red chili flakes that seem to originate from an Italian restaurant, and even Mexican hot sauce. It was a confusing mix that made no sense. Aside from the soy sauce (once served in bottles), nothing else felt appropriate for a Thai restaurant. The charming pre-meal salads accompanied by chips and peanut dressing are gone, as are the days when a server would walk around offering complimentary white rice with your meal. Instead of being on the house, the once-free salad is now priced at $2 (even higher if you don’t order a meal), and white rice now costs $2 a bowl. The sizzling chicken dish is completely different from what we enjoyed for 34 years. In short, the new owner has increased prices significantly while eliminating the "perks" that A1 Thai was known for since I was nine years old. At the end of the meal, my kids received Chinese fortune cookies, which, like the red pepper flakes from the Italian place and the Mexican hot sauce, simply don’t belong in a Thai restaurant. The only bright spot of the evening was that, for now, it seems the chefs are still relatively the same and are preparing staples like shrimp fried rice, pad Thai, and curries in the way we remember. The father-and-son management team is wonderful and brings a warm atmosphere to the restaurant; they are truly irreplaceable. Overall, we will continue to visit A1 Thai occasionally until the changes make it impossible for us to return. While change can be good, in this case, it feels like a loss. I'm saddened to think that after over three decades, this could be the beginning of the end for our cherished A1 Thai.
The food here is fantastic, and the menu is extensive, featuring a wide variety of options. I found the pad Thai to be absolutely delicious. I also appreciate that they offer four different spice levels, allowing you to tailor the heat to your preference. The main drawback of this restaurant is the lack of air conditioning, which can make it quite warm. If it weren't for this issue, I would definitely give it a 5-star rating.
They are closed till October 2. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
I believe this is Palm Beach county's oldest Thai restaurant. I wasn't even ten years old the first time I walk through the doors.... it was my 45th birthday yesterday. A hidden gem. So many great memories there and the food is definitely A1. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner
