My friends and I booked two nights in the Royal Oak to celebrate each of us having recently turned 30 and we had an incredible weekend here! The hotel is beautifully quaint; perfect for a relaxing weekend away with a roaring fire and good local beers/ciders on draft too! The staff were really great fun (especially Shannon) and the restaurant’s steak was absolutely insane, definitely amongst the best we have ever had!... View all feedback.
What Fresh110 doesn't like about The Royal Oak:
We stayed in the Royal Oak very nice room but the radiators had a value on to stop turning them up . Had a drink in bar very nice but after our meal both fires had been turned off and it was very old ,also dinned in the restaurant and it was freezing had to sit in coats as were several other people, shame as it should be really cosy this time of year View all feedback.
Very disappointed to have been 'banned ' from this pub. Was told I made the other customers feel 'uncomfortable '. I have no idea what this is all about but I am very hurt and angry.

I really like this place normally but I drove 30 mins to get there with my sons today for a Sunday lunch treat and the restaurant was half empty. I asked to sit at a nice comfy big table but we were adamantly told by the manager that we had to sit at a small table for 3 close to the bar. We are all tall and it felt really pokey and squashed. I assumed this was because bookings were coming but the other tables remained empty the whole time and it was ridiculous that the manager was so pedantic and refused to let us sit elsewhere even when I has asked. She could have easily put us on a better table. I run my own business and always try and give the customers the best experience. Clearly not the case here!!!! Plus the staff looked knackered, one was crying on arrival and as another customer has said, the flowers were all wilting on the tables. I also had to constantly get the staff's attention even though it was half empty. The manager was more intent on setting up the new tables as opposed to serving customers. Someone needs to sort the staff out a bit I think who's in charge?? Food good but not good enough for such poor treatment. I should say our actual waitress was lovely and tried hard. Shame about the management.
We came for dinner last Monday Tuesday, apart from the lovely atmosphere and decoration. The service was top-notch and friendly. The food was consistently delicious over both nights. Chef Tom is definitely at the top of his game. Thank you, Royal Oak, for your consistent hospitality.
