What 702Happydiner doesn't like about Swan Inn:
The restaurant was a letdown. We decided to stop in spontaneously, but had high hopes after reading a couple of good reviews. My husband enjoyed his pie with fresh vegetables and potatoes, but I found my lasagna to be bland. It started off hot, but cooled down towards the middle. My group of friends stayed in Abbotsbury and dined at this charming local pub several times during our visit. I called the pub a few weeks in advance to reserve a table for 7 for Sunday lunch and spoke with the chef, Andy, who suggested arriving early due to a large party of 21 also dining that day. The pub offers a specials board in addition to their regular menu, featuring traditional roast on Sundays. Each meal we had was delicious, well presented, and came with fresh vegetables. They serve Butcombe ale on tap and have a good selection of wines. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and we always received a warm welcome from Shell, Andy, and Graham. Thank you for a wonderful experience - we'll see you next year!
Recommended by our hotel we travelled out to the 'Swan ' located in an attractive village, with outside seating it 's a typical country pub that also serves food. You order from a comprehensive menu at the bar and service was speedy and friendly. The food itself was tasty and came in decent portions. Reasonably priced. Off street parking.
The restaurant was a letdown. We decided to stop in spontaneously, but had high hopes after reading a couple of good reviews. My husband enjoyed his pie with fresh vegetables and potatoes, but I found my lasagna to be bland. It started off hot, but cooled down towards the middle. I should have complained, but I had already eaten too much by the time I realized it was cold in the center. There were flies everywhere, which made it unpleasant to eat. The atmosphere was terrible, with only a few locals and loud music playing. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we felt like we wasted our money. We left feeling highly dissatisfied.
Popped in on a random drive through Abbotsbury and was delighted to find they were happy for us to park our motorhome overnight in their car park. We ate in their pretty beer garden and the food was delicious. There were at least 4 vegan options, I chose the Penang Curry which didn’t disappoint. Hubby had a shepherd’s pie which he enjoyed. They even sold doggy ice cream and provided a water bowl for my pooches. We will definitely be returning!
We finally decided to stop at this charming pub after seeing it a few times and hearing about their crab ploughman's, a combination of two of my favorite things that you don't often see together. While there is a spacious garden area for outdoor seating, we opted to sit inside the cozy old pub with lots of character. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and we were promptly served our main courses. I enjoyed the Crab Ploughman's with a delicious dressed crab and a warm cobb roll - the best I've had. My husband chose the sausages in rolls with onions and chips on the side, and he really enjoyed them. They were proper sausages, not cheap catering ones. My mother ordered the fish goujons, which were fishfinger-sized and came with a salad and chips. She also thoroughly enjoyed her meal. The service was excellent, and our food arrived quickly after we sat down. We will definitely be back soon, this time to try their Sunday lunch.
