Mandarin Court - West Berkshire

Having tried all the other Chinese in Thatcham we decided to give the Mandarin Court a try. Clean, non greasy, fresh, but not so tasty. Mine was chicken in black bean sauce, wife had king prawn with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. No problem with the quantity except that they were extraordinarily mild. Black bean sauce should have a bite to it, this seemed to be apologizing for being there so a let down on that score. Wife reported the same, just rather bland. Takeaway service only due to COVID, and the staff were screened off from customers.

Tragic Beef curry. The meat was completely inedible just gristle. Very disappointing as it was part of a birthday meal. Our usual takeaway was shut so we tried here but will never go back ever again. And what’s with the clingfilm screen at the counter ? ? Looks terrible. What a shame because it used to be good.

I have been coming for 14 years and will never ever stop best in the area and was very good when I had it recently especially the salt and pepper chicken well done

I called to complain, but the management seemed clueless about the issue. I ended up speaking to their young son, who works at the front of house. After being on the phone for half an hour, I was told that I could receive a free dish on my next visit. However, this offer did not adequately compensate for the cold and wasteful meal. I am very disappointed with the bad management and will be discussing the need for spot checks with the local food hygiene authorities.

The service at this restaurant is excellent, the food is delightful, and I have never had a disappointing takeaway from here. I placed an order online, was given a specific time slot, and the food was still hot when I collected it. This is definitely one of the top Chinese takeaways in the area.
