Love this friendly local pub for a tasty steak with a glass of wine. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and the menu is familiar with a regular rotation of seasonal choices on the blackboard. I had a delicious porterhouse steak last time I visited and it was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. The kids were happy with dumplings, fish and chips and veggie sides. We all left feeling very satisfie... View all feedback.
What Judy F doesn't like about The Royal Mail on Spencer:
We came here on our Thursday night date night for dinner. The menu was varied and a good selection of wines were available too accompany some great meal options. After waiting 40 minutes for our meals it arrived. I ordered the Chicken Sagg with flatbread and yogurt which was tasty and well presented. My husband had ordered the American style fried chicken and fries but was surprised when the pie of the day venison an... View all feedback.
A well priced menu in an interesting setting. The wine list included lots of choice. I personally liked liked the decor. Mixed friendly clientele. Likewise, service was very friendly. Well worth a visit if in the area. Beware, closes early at 9pm.
I eat at the Royal Mail with friends regularly and have had an event there (birthday party). It's a great place to relax with friends and the food is very good.
Lovely food - really enjoyed it. Big meals too. Even the toilets & smoking areas had a lovely décor. Will be back!
Well there isn't that many places to eat around the Festival Hall Hotel so its location was the first thing that attracted us to this place on our first visit. That first time there was a bit of a problem with the waiting time for our food, but we have now been back a few times (yes, we do like to attend gigs) and it's been great ever since. Food is consistently good and the wine/beer list is great, all well priced and good quality without being too "gastropub" - they have got the right balance. It's always busy with a very diverse crowd. We'll keep on coming back.
Visiting from WA and with USA peeps, so prefering to try some Australian meat, we followed TripAdvisor to this rough diamond. Through the oldy roughy bar to a dark cavenous restaurant, without any patrons on a Thursday night. Good wine list, well priced. We settled on a McLaren Vale Grey Goose which was delicious and full bodied,, without a big pricetag. Complimentary bread balsamic and oil, and into mains without delay. Venison, searved as deserved, rare, on a lovely vegetable base. Kangaroo steaks, medium rare, over mixed grilled capsicum and pistachios, and the forth was a lovely chunk of porterhouse. The meal was quite simply, sensational. Im still astounded to think it was near empty. Happy to return, and compliments all round to the chef!
