The restaurant serves traditional Ethiopian food. The place is also so traditional. The restaurant building from the outside looks like an African tent covered with branches, and the interior decoration is all wood, as well as tables and chairs Ethiopian style. During dinner there is a live show with traditional dancing and songs. If you are not used to local food you may not like it . Its nice to try overall not bad.

I visited this restaurant with my family and I have never been so upset about the service I received. The waiters were utterly rude and condescending. One particular girl (tsion) caught my attention as she first cursed at my sister to move aside and sit in her seat so she could wash everyone’s hands then I later caught her mocking my mother with her friends. I sincerely hope she doesn’t work there anymore as I cannot recommend anyone go eat at this establishment with such horrific service. The food was completely overshadowed by the behavior of the waiters and we could not enjoy the food nor the entertainment. I implore everyone to avoid this restaurant at all costs.

The most authentic Guragay kitfo. I loved the ambiance and the details capturing the rich Ethioipian culture. After an amazing feast of kitfo with variety of ayib we topped off the day with a cup of Coffee with Butter. What an experience.

Desalech Kitfo House is one of my best suggested traditional restaurants in Addis Ababa especially to taste the cultural meals of the Gurage tribe. The building shows typical traditional house surrounded with Enset (False Banana trees). The meals of the Gurage people mainly comprise Kotcho )bread made out of the stalk and root of Enset, and tender meat finely chopped by hand and blended with spices and butter. The waiters and waitresses at Desalech Kitfo serve dressing with typical Gurage cultural dresses. Food is so tasty. If you are going there on Wednesday or Friday, check by phone before going if they are serving meat meals as they don’t serve meals with food sometimes on Wednesdays and Fridays, and on the main fasting season of the Ethiopian Orthodox church in April.
