Cosy restaurant in the green, with a large outdoor terrace. The menu offers a lot of choice, for everyone there is something to do, whether a carving or a fish dish. The operators work hard and fast, were always very friendly. I like to come back, especially as the adjacent city forest offers enough space for the digestive path afterwards. View all feedback.
What Renee Lakin doesn't like about Zur Kluse:
I went there with my family in August. The weather was great so we chose a table outside. It was a busy evening but there were still some open tables. We waited 16 minutes till the waitress came to our table for the first time. Since it was a busy sunday they only offered a limited menu with around 8 or 9 dishes. I went with a larger group of friends. The food was decent its presentation gorgeous. Good service and nice atmosphereambiance. I would recommend it for a fancy night out
We visited the Kluse restaurant on Sunday for lunch following a couple of succesful visits good food, nice atmosphere. We hadn't booked a table, it was warm and we were told that we could sit outside which was pleasant and they provide fleece blankets if...you feel the cold. My husband ordered a pork schnitzel which was okay, I had ordered a salad which sounded better on the menu than it looked on the plate when it eventually arrived: it was a mixture of salad, lots of corn on the cob tasteless, salad trimmings, far too much sauce which had gathered at the bottom of the plate which was decorated with large potato wedges. There was a large skewer of grilled prawns and bits of chicken. The quality of the ingredients was fine, the composition of the plate looked like a mixture of anything that could be found in the kitchen. It took exactly an hour from ordering our food to the meals arriving on the plate it would have been appreciated if someone had told us at the time of ordering that patience was the order of the day. It would have been better if they had supplied a basket with bread and rolls. Perhaps it was an 'offday' in the kitchen, the food was not as good as we remembered it from previous visits it's a lovely setting and it would be a pity if the place went downhill
I went there with my family in August. The weather was great so we chose a table outside. It was a busy evening but there were still some open tables. We waited 16 minutes till the waitress came to our table for the first time. Since it was a busy sunday they only offered a limited menu with around 8 or 9 dishes. Once our drinks were served the waitress spilled beer all over my brother's pants - and she didn't even apologize! We waited on our food for 1 hour and 32 minutes - without prior notice - and the food was not that tasty. Especially the schnitzel was a big disappointment. The couple who sat next to us was also not happy with the service.I won't give this place another shot for a while. The only good thing on that day was the weather.
Beautiful scenery and location. The restaurant is situated in an old House with the typical structure for NRW. The kitchen is great, very traditional German kitchen with a creative touch.
I've been here twice and it's a lovely place. Modern décor with a vibrant atmosphere. Good food selection including typical German fare. Staff are friendly and speak reasonable English although they do not have English menus. It's probably worth booking to ensure you get a table. Travel time by car is about 15 minutes from central Essen.
