Simply the best restaurant I have been to, food was beautiful both in taste and visually. The story made it a much fuller experience, with even the music chosen to supplement this. Waiters were also fabulous. Booked to return the same evening, just a shame we have to wait until April, can’t wait for the next tale and food journey! View all feedback.
What Nick doesn't like about Hiakai:
I was disappointed by my experience at Hiakai. While the meal was good, it didn't meet my expectations for the "best" restaurant in Wellington. The flavors were decent but not exceptional, and I've had better meals at other, more affordable restaurants in town. The required drinks pairing was not something I would have chosen myself and wasn't worth the cost. I did enjoy the Māori and Pacific ingredients and stories,... View all feedback.
Edit: It seems Hiakai has shut their doors as their last season finished April 1 (as per website) and no new bookings have been released. Pretty good! Awesome tasty food and service, had the wine match and that was great too. The only thing that could be a little different for that price is maybe some more experimental items instead of just a cake as the dessert. I know from photos old-style Hiakai used to be experimental but seems to have lost it's touch recently.
Such a perfect evening for a special family occasion. Very grateful to our servers George, Haley, and Lily for taking really good care of us. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at this restaurant. Every bite of our meal was delicious and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Overall, everything felt exceptional and unforgettable.
This restaurant is amazing! They have vegetarian options, but it's not very kid-friendly. Parking can be a bit challenging to find. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's a great spot for dinner, but it can be a bit pricey at NZ$100+ per person. The parking situation is somewhat difficult, but there is free street parking available.
